Windows 10: ZoneAlarm NG Free Firewall causes my Windows 11 desktop PC to crash with BSOD error...

Subject: ZoneAlarm NG Free Firewall causes my Windows 11 desktop PC to crash with BSOD error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Netio.sys" when I upload files to the cloud Good day from Singapore, I have recently installed ZoneAlarm NG Free Firewall on my Windows 11 desktop computer. When I upload files to Google Drive, I notice the upload will slow down. When I attempt to upload small PDF documents to other cloud service providers, ZoneAlarm NG Free Firewall will cause my Windows 11 desktop computer to crash with the following BSOD error and then reboot: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Net

ZoneAlarm Firewall not working

I posted that issue in a W10TP forum where it was suggested to post in another TechNet forum. It was suggest to try renaming the installer. Bingo, no PCA!!!

 

Zonealarm & Windows 10 - NO Firewall !

I've been running ZoneAlarm on my Windows 10 PC without issue since I upgraded to Windows 10

Over the last few days my PC is telling me Zonealarm and the Windows firewall are turned off.
I'm given the open to enable either. I can enable the Windows firewall, but Zonealarm won't enable.

Any one any ideas how I can enable Zonealarm ?

I prefer to use Zonealarm as it will actively REJECT packets to Port 113 IDENT, where as Windows firewall BLOCKS it.
I telnet to a lot of local network devices, using REJECT the telnet connection is instant.. with BLOCK it takes 10 - 20 seconds.

Any ideas ? How to get Zonealarm to work again ?

Can Zonealarm Cause BSODs?

Hi Gurn Blanston,

Basically every AV could cause BSOD crashes, AV programs with realtime features inject themselves into your system quite deeply to be able to monitor everything. Certain types of malware actually do the exact same thing, the only difference is the purpose.
Since AV programs inject themselves deeply into the system, they have to be properly tested before releasing any realtime feature.

Not to put Malwarebytes into a bad daylight, but Malwarebytes is a recent example that caused crashes due to an issue in the realtime web protection feature. They enhanced the realtime web protection in version 3.5.1 by adding the ability to block stuff based on URL's too, before it was only on domains. So if someone on Discord shared malicious stuff, not only the malicious stuff but everything was blocked. As this is a realtime feature it's deeply injected into the system to monitor. For me the reason why many users had BSOD crashes for quite some time is unknown. It took Malwarebytes some time to address this issue, though it rarely occurs that Malwarebytes actually causes crashes.

If your friend likes ZoneAlarm, I would recommend to go to the support of ZoneAlarm before replacing it with a different AV.
