  1. How to install Boot manager and windows on seperate disks ?

    Hello,

I recently wiped my old laptop and replaced the sata DVD drive by an SSD. I figured I could use this SSD to gain some extra speed. But the bios being kinda hold it refuses to boot in UEFI mode so I'm stuck with the standard BIOS mode which refuse to boot from the SSD. Thus I cannot install a fresh windows directly from the SSD. I need to figure out a way to install the Windows Boot Manager (or grub for that matter) on my HDD, install the windows partition system on my SSD and somehow bcdedit the way out of it so I can boot from my HDD to access the windows on my SSD.

I already tried to install windows on my HDD, clone the partition on the SSD and edit the entry with bcdedit / easyBCD but that didn't help much because windows refused to boot throwing me 0x490 error "Boot manager failed to find OS Loader". I also tried to install windows using winNTSetup but after it's done copying the files it fails when rebooting the system.

So I've spent my whole afternoon trying to figure out a way to ... simply install an OS ... It's not past 1am and I'm giving up for today.
Hopefuly whoever you are, reading all of this text can help me figure out a way to do it.

Thank you for reading, and even more thanks if you can help in any way.

PS : I'm trying to install Win10X64 Pro

    Partition management

Or at the very least, make sure that your hard drive boot order is correct, because it will take the first writable drive in the boot list to determine where to put the boot loader. As Jester suggested, pop the Windows install disk in, make sure your boot order is correct (or unplug the drive,) and run repair. It's really that simple.

  3. Disk management console view is not up-to-date

i dont know how to fix your disk management, but i can fix your partition problems...

open up Command Prompt with admin rights. (Right click, run as admin)

    enter in
    DISKPART
    list disk

then find the Disk number for your Raid array... lets call it number 7 ( you can tell what disk is what by the total size)
    type in

    Select Disk 7
List Partition (will give you a list of all the partitions..)
Select Partition 1 (im assuming you only have 1 partition on Disk 7) repeat this step if you have more partitions.
    ASSIGN

that should get the array up and running ready to use.

    EDITED.

    any problems, post back ^^
