Windows 10: Flashing shield on lower task bar

    Flashing shield on lower task bar


    On my task bar at the bottom of the screen I have a flashing orange square with the blue and yellow quartered shield in it which won't allow me access to anything in the task bar. I can't access Word and Excel until I go to task manager and select "end task", but it always comes up on every restart. Anyone know what caused this and how to remedy it please? It won't even respond to clicking on it or let me know what it is there for.

    Cannot modify Task Bar settings

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    I understand your concern and will be happy to assist you.

    I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if the issue persists.

    • Right click on the Task Bar.
    • Uncheck the option " Lock the Taskbar."

    Flashing Shield Box on bottom row

    On my task bar at the bottom of the screen I have a flashing orange square with the blue and yellow quartered shield in it which won't allow me access to anything in the task bar. I can access internet and other things on my desktop but not things like
    Word and Excel and the switch off icon. Anyone know what caused this and how to remedy it please? It won't even respond to clicking on it or let me know what it is there for.
