Windows 10: windows 10 task manager not running correctly

I tend use the task manager a lot, mainly for peace of mind.

However today, 25th Aug 2019, it started doing strange things. The process list was saying various programmes were taking a lot of cpu, the wifi graph was empty.


All this turned out to be because it was not updating at all, i.e. it was stuck.


When run as a privelged user it all works perfectly. But for a normal user it no longer works. Tried launching it various ways: comman line, shortcuts, menu items, ctrlaltdel..... No difference.


Running windows 10, full patched and updated (that i'm aware of).


Has something changed?

Windows 10 - cannot add exec to Startup in Task Manager

I purchased a new computer with Windows 10 already installed. I am trying to add an exec to the startup list but Win10 will not accept it. The exec runs successfully on my Windows 10 machine if I start it manually.

Steps I've taken: Task Manager, Startup Tab, File>Run New Task. (browse to location, select.) It will start immediately, but does not show up on the list to autostart, nor does it start on reboot.

Any suggestions?

 

Task Manager not running


I have added a new task to the ones already populated which I suppose were in Win7
The new task or the present tasks are not running as there is no entry in the history or
recently run file
are there other steps necessary to get the new task manager to start up ?

Method 1:

This issue may happen due to system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow
the below given steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
  
• 
  In Command prompt type
  sfc/scannow and press enter.
  

• Restart the computer.

Method 2:

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps to employ the DISM command lines:

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

• 
  Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.
