Windows 10: Duplicate entries in Device Manager

Hello,


I believe this is my first time posting. I have looked up this matter, and I have read a few things. A lot of them are from 2015, or earlier. And maybe from sites that I am not sure I can trust. So, I came here to try to get the most accurate and up to date info.


I recently built a new PC computer. With the OS being Windows 10 Pro.


Under Device Manager there are many devices that have duplicate entries under them.


I have read that these may be different drivers for the particular component/part/device.


Or drivers for plug in devices that I later changed, such as using one keyboard during installation of windows, and then a better one a few days later.


I am not sure which is it, but:


Are they necessary?


Can they be deleted?


Will deleting them create problems with the proper functioning of my computer?

Device Manager "other" entries


After a fresh W10 1703 fully updated install on a 3148 Inspiron laptop, four OTHER DEVICES appear in Device Manager: PCI Data Aqquisition and Signal Processing Controller and three 'unknown devices.' "Drivers not installed; no compatible driver can be found."

Prior to this install several Intel drivers were listed under Programs and Features. likely because they were added after the fact. They are not listed now and Intel's update utility reports nothing missing. SFC is good and PC operation is normal.

The errant entries are redetected at boot even if disabled, or uninstalled via Safe Mode. Suggestions on banishing them for good would be appreciated.

 

Duplicate Monitor Entry under "Other Devices" - "Generic Monitor"


Apparently when I installed the original Creators Update last Spring on my HP desktop, it generated a fictitious entry under "Other Devices". This device is named "Generic Monitor" and it appears from the information in Device Manager to be a duplicate of my actual monitor (HP ZR2440w which does appear under the regular Monitor list) except there are no drivers associated with this duplicate and it indicates that it is "not connected". The entry only shows if I display hidden devices. I thought I heard of this last year but did not do anything with it then. However I would like to get rid of it if possible. Is there an easy way to do this?

Duplicate microSD card entries in File Explorer

How do I eliminate the duplicate File Explorer entry for the microSD card on my Surface Pro 3?

BACKGROUND: I've just completed a clean install of Windows 10 v.1511 from a USB drive. Everything went fine and I haven't added any apps, not even antivirus or browser, only the default apps. When I check file explorer there are two identical entries for the
microSD. The top one isn't expanded (single line) and a folder list is shown under the second one. Under Settings>System>Storage, I've since set save locations for documents, music, pictures, and videos as Drive E: (microSD); but that was done after I noticed
the duplicate entries. I've also checked the device manager for duplicate entries, but there are none. I've also removed the microSD card in device manager, shutdown, physically removed the card, restarted and reinserted the card. The duplicate entries are
still there.
