  1. Why is Windows becoming more and more unreliable?

That may seem like an odd title for a question post, but I'm serious.

Windows self updates quite often, sometimes several times per week, most of these updates seem to require a reboot which means that the OS becomes unavailable for a period while it shuts down and restarts.

An OS that becomes unavailable several times a week is to all intents and purposes an unreliable OS.

For example I often run lengthy tests, perhaps soak tests on network services and other long running background software, these tests may run for days and are aimed at ensuring a service (for example) remains operational day after day.

Forced reboots every couple of days make these tests almost impossible.

One of the original NT design goals was to minimize the need to reboot, to be able to update some components without restarting the system, of course certain fundamental components must require a restart.

It now sees that every Windows update requires an associated reboot but why? Why are MS in a position that almost all OS updates are to critical kernel components?

This really has become a serious drag at work where I have limited control over infrastructure and security across the organization, I'll come in to work and find all apps closed, unsaved documents lost, involved tests aborted and so on - that is why I refer to this as unreliability, I cannot rely upon the OS anymore.

    :)
