    Autoconfiguration IPv4 Windows 10 169.254.xxx.xxx

The past two days I've been going in huge circles trying to resolve Autoconfiguration IPv4 Windows 10 169.254.xxx.xxx, I'm currently running Win 10 Pro x64, version 10.0.18362 Build 18362. Normally my Ethernet adapter has a static address. When I get the failure on my desktop I seem to have the same problem on my laptop at the same time IF the laptop is connected via Ethernet wire. I have removed the laptop Ethernet cable forcing it to connect via WiFi to my router and the issue is gone. If I go back to the Ethernet cable again I see the issue. On my desktop, I only have an Ethernet connection, e.g. there is no wireless WiFi on my desktop. I see the issue only with wired connections, so far it has NOT occurred with my wireless connected PCs.

On the desktop, if I mess around enough with the IPCONFIG command (release, renew, disable/enable) adapter) I can get the static address back and it will work for an unknown amount of time (it may be necessary for me to reenter the static IP information). Earlier tonight I had a good internet connection, e.g. my adapter had my static address. I left the desktop running and started to work on a wood project. I returned to my desktop after a period of time (I'm guessing about an hour) and it had lost the internet connection. If I issued the IPCONFIG command it reported that the adapter had an IP address of 169.254.xxx.xxx where xxx was not always the same set of numbers when I have the issue.

During my research over the past two days, I found numerous postings regarding the issue and possible solutions (some went back several years) and I tried several. Most did nothing for me and so far nothing completely resolve the issue.

My Ethernet adapter is "Intel 82583V Gigabit Network Connection" and part of my ASRock 990FX Extreme9 motherboard.

At one point I thought the problem was from my router. I swapped it out for another router I had used in the past but after an hour or two the issue reoccurred. It seems to be a software issue but I find it very strange that when it occurs on the desktop it will also occur on the laptop.

I'm well past my level of understanding and confused. If you have any suggestions please provide instructions for dummies. Thanks

    :)

Windows 10 LAN or WiFi networking gets 169.xxx address on DHCP or static

    Surface Pro 4. Windows 10 1709 16299.251

Looking at the above device for a friend. When connecting to network on WiFi it asks for key instantly, and when type in, attempts to connect and then comes back with a "No internet - secured" message. An IPCONFIG shows it has a 169.xxx address. If I config the IPv4 manually with correct details there is still no internet and I can't ping the device. Multiple other devices working on network.

Plugging in a ethernet dongle the same behaviour is exhibited on LAN so believe it's a Windows issue or some sort as discounted adaptor.

    • I have tried removing all adaptors/protocols and reinstalled / rebooted
    • Reset winsock via cmd
    • Reset tcpip via cmd
    • Disabled firewall
    • Disabled AV
    • Ran malware scanner

    Any ideas?

Edit So I download the Windows 10 iso and performed a repair install. This resolved the issue.

Edit 2 Adding in case anyone has similar issues. Windows then updates and breaks the networking again. It's either KB4088776 or KB4058043 that kills it. Annoying that this is on a Surface! - not sure how to proceed now

up). However I could open the same files yesterday. Restart does not

help. I viewed some guitar tabs(.jpg file) and browsed some sites on the Internet last
