  1. Win-10 How do I create a generic user account template?

    Greetings!

No, I'm not a huge, fancy, IT admin type guy - though I have worked with computers for decades. . . .

I DO get the plum task of configuring, setting-up, fixing, (etc.) computers for everyone in the family, etc.

What happens is that I either build out a computer, set up one that has been newly purchased, rebuild one, and so on. In the process I usually go through the exact same steps every time:

    1. Create a user

    2. Modify the Start pane to remove unneeded apps/items and add the things I want pasted there.

    3. Modify task-bar properties.

    4. Modify the user's desktop to hide certain things and show others.

. . . . and so on. Every single time.

The systems are either Win-10 home, or Pro.

    Question:

Is there a way I can create a user "template" (or whatever you call it), that would allow me to drop it into a new or rebuilt machine and do things like:

    1. Create a user named "X", with specific, pre-defined properties, defaults, desktop settings, etc.

    2. Activate and provide a password for the hidden Administrator user. (I always do this so I have access to a machine, no matter how badly banged-up it may have become.)

    3. Apply preset properties, defaults, desktop settings, etc. for the Admin user.

Note that none of these machines are on a domain, neither do any of them use a Microsoft account - all accounts are "local".

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Jim "JR"

  2. New Account/User Issues

    Hi,

When you create a new user account, Windows uses the Default user profile as a template to construct the files for the newly created user account. You might be experiencing issues creating new accounts due to a corrupt Default profile. To
resolve the issue, we suggest reinstating the Default folder in the
Users directory by following these steps:

    • Log in as an administrator.
    • Open the C:\Users folder using Windows Explorer.
    • Rename the Default user profile folder to Default.OLD.
    • Download a zip of C:\Users\Default from a Windows 10 installation that doesn't have this problem.
    • Unzip the non-corrupt Default profile into C:\Users.
    • Try logging in to the new user account and check if the problem is resolved.

Let us know how it turns out.

    Remove account

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:
    1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:
      Code:
      net user test /del
