Windows 10: Windows 10 Backup Failure 0x800700E1

I recently ran a Windows 10 backup using 'Backup and restore (Windows 7)'. I have successfully used this facility many times using an external Freecom disk to store the backup but this time the backup failed with error code 0x800700E1 (see below).





I then ran a scan using Windows Defender and received amessage that a Trojan had been detected (see below).





I wasn't sure if this meant there was a virus on my C: drive or on my external Freecom drive. So, I ran a Windows Defender scan and a Malwarebytes scan on my C: drive but they found nothing. I then deleted the backup that was already on my external Freecom disk and re-ran the backup. This time it completed successfully.


Please would anynone be able to advise if I should do anything else ?

Hi,

I am running win 10 pro 64 bit and am using the win 7 backup process. I backup every week and have been doing this for many years (I am a mainframe dinosaur). Last week I started getting this failure just as the backup was ready to finish (during the system
image creation phase).

I have researched it and tried all of the recommended steps (running sfc, DSIM.EXE) to no avail.

My environment is:

Lenovo P70, 64GB RAM

Hard Drive is 1TB partitioned to 3 drives (C,D,E)

Backup is External USB3 Seagate 5TB 1 partition.

I am up to date with Win 10 updates except for 1809 (it keeps failing).

I have an update to the issue.

First some more clarification.

The C: drive is used for the win 10 libraries and all products where I canNOT change the default execution library location.

The D: drive is used for all execution library locations that I can control. I also use it for downloads of software, manuals (computer and others) and some other items.

The E: drive is used for all of my .doc libraries (Word, Excel, photos, etc)

I have performed some more PD and have determined the following. I can backup the C: and E: drives without any problems. I can also create system image backups of the hard drive.

I cannot create a backup of the D: partition.

There is obviously something 'evil' on it. I have not been able to find out how to isolate the 'evil' entity which is causing the failure.

Help!
