  1. Bizzare internet (gigabit Ethernet) Windows 10 1903 issue - need help

So I've been having issues with my gigabit Ethernet speeds which I've narrowed down to an issue with Windows 10 1903. Basically windows is limiting my internet (not Ethernet) speeds to around 180Mb/s. I've tested the actual Ethernet speeds (both inside and outside of windows) and they're running at full gigabit duplex (around 950Mb/s)

I recently booted Linux mint to run a speed test and it went at full speed e.g 850Mb/s, so I've narrowed the problem down to Windows 10. I'm pretty confident it's a driver issue as my roommates PC (completely different motherboard,CPU) is also having the same issue and we are both on 1903.

I believe my network driver is I120 if that makes any difference. I've tried searching for updated drivers on my motherboard website (Asus Prime x370 pro) and there's nothing. I can't uninstall the update as it's been more than 10 days.

I'm at a loss as what to do, if anyone has any advice or can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

    Yet another gigabit ethernet issue

    Hello everyone,

Found this forum from my Google searches but couldn't find a similar issue.

I use ethernet cable to connect my laptop to a router. My router supports gigabit connection and the wiring of the house is cat 5e. Yet the connection is very unstable on my machine and I hardly see 1 Gbps negotiation. It is mostly auto negotiated as 100 Mbps. Read similar topics and saw that the problem often lies from the infrastructure. However, I did see 1 Gbit connection a couple of times within Windows 10 so I eliminated that out of the equation.

Here's what I have tried so far:

    • I tried to set to 1 Gbps full duplex from auto negotiation in ethernet card settings. (I have onboard RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller) This did not change the negotiation speed, it remained on 100 Mbps.

    • I tried booting to Ubuntu from an USB drive to check the connection and it was 1 Gbps and pretty stable; by that I mean it did not decrease the negotiation speed. Here you can see the hardware output from Ubuntu: Hardware output
    • Strangely, after rebooting from Ubuntu to Windows 10, I saw 1 Gbps connection on ethernet status. However, this was temporary and switched automatically back to 100Mbps after some minutes. Plugging the ethernet cable out and back in multiple times sometimes helps to get 1 Gbit connection but this too is a temporary solution.

Any tip would be appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Gigabit Ethernet problem, stuck at 100mbps

Hello, since I bought my new desktop computer, I was never able to use the gigabit ethernet (driver problem?)

    Adapters Status shows only 100mpbs.

    I'm using windows 10 and I've a asus h110-m c/br motherboard. I'm using cat 5e cable.

The most bizzare thing is: my notebook with windows 10, using the desktop cable, is able to connect do gigabit.

To check if wasn't a physical problem, i've tested my desktop with a ubuntu's live usb, connected to gigabit as well.

I bought a new cable as well, but I don't think it's the problem, since it works in desktop-ubuntu and with notebook-windows/ubuntu, just waiting to arrive.

Is there a way to fix it?

Is there a way to check if windows is detecting the adapter correctly?

It's also causing me a gigantic bufferbloat ~2000ms (but i've tested in my notebook, setting the speed at 100mpbs in adapter properties, causes the same effect).
