File Explorer Display is Out of Order

The left panel of the File Explorer has irregularities which I would like to correct.

"Downloads" is imbedded within "Documents". When displaying the documents library as large icons the icon for downloads (along with the large downward pointing arrow) is shown as if it were a document. Click on it and the list of downloads appears. The "Downloads" are also displayed separately a short way down from "Documents" and the files with in it duplicates what was in "Documents". I tried to extract downloads from the documents but was unsuccessful.

"Favorites" does not appear in the left panel; however, while searching a backup file on my external drive created by File History at the end of this string: One Touch 4(J.) > File History > SJ&BS > Desktop - 2104DL8 > Data > C > Users > SJ&BS. drop down list. The list included desktop, pictures, etc. but not documents or downloads. Perhaps Favorites is supposed to be there but I thought it should be in the left panel where it could be accessed. The "C" in the list puzzled me too.

I jumped from using Vista to Win 10 and been quite a learning experience. That left panel with the long list of files and libraries has puzzled me and I don't really understand what it accomplishes.

    :)

  2. windows photo viewer display order not as file explorer

Thank you for replying Amarjeet_Paul, the checks you suggested did not find any problems, as expected.

Method 1: Did not find any problems.

Method 2:"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

With respect, I don't think you understood my request.

I would like Windows Photo Viewer to display images in date order NOT in name order.

Window Photo Viewer should be displaying in the same order as is set in the file explorer.

This is possible in Vista (on my old desktop) and was possible in Windows 8.1 (as I remember).

Is there a known fix for this?, possibly a registry tweak but preferably an obscure setting change.

Probably a Windows 10 bug that will never be fixed.

If you do not know please just say that. Thank you for replying regardless.

  4. File Explorer Display is Out of Order

    - Retaining Sort Order in File Explorer:

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Let me assist you on your issue regarding Windows 10.

"it takes a LONG time for the software to rescan the folder and re-order", which software are you using to rescan and re-order the folder?

You may follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    1. Open the drop box folder in file explorer which needs to be sorted.

    2. Click on the view tab in the file ribbon.

    3. Now select the sort by option.

    4. Select the "date created" option and also select descending order.

    5. By select these two options the most recent(new) files will be displayed in the top separated by most recent(new) folders.

Note: The above steps are for drop box folder only, if you want to sort the other folder similarly please follow the above steps.

Hope the information helps. Do reply if you need further assistance.

    Thank you.
