I went to click on my audio icon and the control panel didn't appear.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES AM I DOWNLOADING DRIVERS ETC.

I want a real answer as to what can be done. I don't want one of those answer where you go do some really heavy duty things to your computer, when there is a simple fix. I also don't want one of those answers where they want you to check everything because they don't know but that makes your question go away.

    :)

  3. Realtek HD Audio Manager Doesnt Appear In Control Panel

    Hi Josian,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

What is the model of Surface Book that you are using?

Try the below steps and check if you are able to install Realtek HD Audio Manger.

Step 1: Click on the Start Menu and search for
    Device Manager and hit Enter.

Step 2: Expand Sound, video and game controllers and locate the
    Realtek High Definition Audio drivers.

Step 3: Right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio drivers and click on
    Uninstall.

Note: Check the option with Delete the driver software for this device and click on
    Uninstall button.

Step 4: Then, click on the View from
    Device Manger
and click on Show hidden devices.

Step 5: Search for any duplicate Realtek Audio drivers and uninstall all of them.

Then, go to PC Audio Codecs > High Definition Audio Codecs Software and click on the Download
icon beside to 32bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10 Driver only (Executable file) if your Surface Book is
32-bit or click on the Download icon beside to 64bits Vista, Windows7, Windows8, Windows8.1, Windows10 Driver only (Executable file) if your Surface Book is
64-bit. Then, download and install the High Definition Audio Codecs Software on your Surface Book.

    Hope it helps.

Realtek HD Audio Driver Version old post

Glad to hear you got it working, can you share exactly what you did and do you actually have a Audio Manager in the control panel or just the start menu? The one in system tray is shown or not shown based on if you can run it from Control Panel and/or Start Menu or in other words, you have to open Realtek HD Audio Manager first and then enabling it by clicking on the "i" on the lower right of HD Audio Manager right above the "OK" button and click on "Display icon in notification area" as the later will toggle the icon from showing or not which should be instant as soon as you click on it.
