I have searched High & Low but to no avail. My dilemma is, I inherited an older HP dv6000 that I have totally rebuilt Solid State Drive, new Intel motherboard with 'intel Core 2 Duo CPU' & 'Mobile intel 945 Express Chipset Display Adaptor" using WDDM 1.0 and it operates ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFULLY since I tossed out the old AMD motherboard. The old AMD motherboard never did utilize "Hardware Reserved" with this Windows 10 Pro software.

This new intel motherboard will only accept 4GB of ram 2 cards X 2GB ea maximum and One 1 full GB is "Hardware Reserved" UGH!. That only leaves 2.9 GB's of RAM available.

My pet peeve with that is, when streaming live TV for example, I have to watch on "Data Saver" HULU live for example rather than "Best Picture" mode, otherwise the picture stutters and lags along, WHILE USING UP 2/3 OF THE RAM 60% to stream simple Live TV.

I have tried everything anyone has put online google, Youtube, etc.... to rid myself of this problem like msconfig, etc, but we all know how that goes. :

I love to tinker with older stuff, hate to just throw things away, so please, with all due respect, don't tell me to toss the laptop. : I just need someone to inform me as to where I can get into the Registry Keys and get rid of this "Hardware Reserved" issue.

I love and make use of the old laptop I have Two other new laptops because it looks brand new and I even have a HP xb3000 Expansion Base with Altec Lansing speakers inside it, numerous adaptors on it, extra HDD/SSD drive slot and the list goes on. It's a great little Entertainment Center for a bedroom.

Who knows, literally, where the Registry Keys are, so I can end my "Pet Peeve"?

    Thanks-a-millon!

    :)

  2. System Reserved Memory issue

    Hi Rowan,

The reduction in available system memory depends on the configuration of the following:

    • The devices that are installed in the computer and the memory that is reserved by those devices
    • The ability of the motherboard to handle memory
    • The system BIOS version and settings
    • The version of Windows 10 that is installed
    • Other system settings

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest that you check your system for memory problems.

    Here's how:

    • Type mdsched.exe in the search bar and select the best match.
    • When prompted by the User Account Control, enter an admin user name and password, and click
      Yes.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to run it.

Let us know how it goes.

    Hardware reserved memory

Got that Nikola. The error you are getting which is the "hardware reserved" is almost related to BIOS. Since the previous steps did not work, let us check if the steps below will make any difference on the issue:

    1. Delete some files that you are no longer using.

    2. Re-instate the old BIOS. If it is still not working, install the newer BIOS instead.

    3. Check possible issues with the physical RAM. Check whether you have bad memory modules and if standoff cards are used. Make sure that the memory arrangement is correct.

Let us know if there's any changes.

    Thank you.

OK, good plan. Also, it is worth knowing if they are matched or not. Sometimes memory bought later is subtly different even though it may be nominally the same. As you try different combinations see if you can work with two, then try the four. Your motherboard manual shows the preferred way of inserting the sticks:
