Windows 10: Sleep mode

I have a Dell Latitude running Windows 10 Pro which sits on a table next to my armchair, it is a single user machine and generally plugged into a power supply.


I would like to be able to open the lid or press a key and wake it from sleep and have it take me to my desk top or Outlook. After several days of making changes I am struggling to achieve this however, and the situation has just got worse.


I have all settings in Power and Sleep options set to 'sleep', I have also set it to sleep when the lid is closed etc. I have also been into Local Group Policy Editorand User Accounts and made change there with no effect.


I have now ended up with the situation where I have to to hit the power button to wake it it up, enter a password I set this thinking it may allow access to other options which I could switch off and it is now is taking me to a Bing page to select a new screen saver type screen..


Can anyone suggest how I can have a simple approach: no password, and simply waking up from sleep when I hit a key or open the lid.

There could be other settings on your computer that triggers your computer to go on sleep even though the sleep settings is set to never. To ensure that the sleep and display settings are properly set, I suggest that you look into the Advanced Power Settings.
Follow these steps:

• Open Control Panel and click Power Options.
• On your preferred plan, click Change plan settings.
• Click advanced power settings.
• Expand Sleep option, and make sure to set the following:

Sleep after : Never

Hibernate after : Never

5. Click Apply, then OK.

Please check also the screen saver option.

• Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
• Click Screen saver settings.
• Set your Screen saver to None.
• Click Apply, then OK.

Once done, please observe if your computer still goes to sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity.
