Windows 10: Sharing files between specific computers

I have a laptop running Windows 10 and a desktop running Windows 7. I need a way to share filesonly between them.


This means that other desktops and laptops on the same network cannot access the shared files on those 2 machines, nor the 2 machines can access the shared files on other machines; only the 2 machines can access each others' file.


I've tried looking for various solutions but most of them mentioned Homegroup, which has been discontinued on Windows 10.


I've also tried advanced sharing, but they can not find the users on the other machine.


It works when I try to share with "Everyone" but this means I'm also sharing with other users.


Is there anyway to do this without using another program?

Cannot access shared network drive

I could scream! so much time wasted on this stupid error, as if time is not precious enough!
It probably would work fine if I could see the other computer! But I cannot see the other computer!

 

transfer files between computers on a home network

I don't know why this is so hard to do but I would like to transfer files between a desktop PC running windows 10 pro and a laptop running windows 10 home. I would like to transfer files in both directions. Both computers are on the same home network and are connected wirelessly.

Could some one provide either specific step by step instructions on how to do this (I googled and found a countless list of instructions that don't work)

or a link to a reference.

I don't know if this is possible but it would be nice to see the computer sending the desired file in the explorer file manager of the computer receiving the desired file and then under the computer see a list
of shared files and folders.

Again, this seems like such a reasonable way of sharing files and folders. Shouldn't there be a simple way to do this?

 

How to share folders with a specific user on another computer

Desktop is protected folder (anti Ransomware in Windows defender).

Try make a share somewhere else...

Edit: tried here and I have no problem to write on another computer's Desktop.

When sharing folder on first cumputer (in advanced mode), did you follow all the steps? - add user / find / ...

And finally add User (your username - hope it is with administrator rights) that is the same on both computers.
