  1. trick windows into thinking its running on battery power?

I have laptop and when it gets warm (57c+) the fans enter an RPM range that creates a very audible high pitched whine. This draws some attention when in class or at the library. I've discovered that the GPU sits around 45-50c under normal everyday use and it's the CPU temps that are causing the fans to ramp up. This issue is making using this machine in class problem for the people around me.

The strange thing is that when the laptop is running solely on battery power both the CPU and GPU run super cool (45-50c CPU and GPU) and fans make virtually no noise at all and the machine essentially becomes passively cooled. I've tried adjusting power settings and battery saver options, even adjusting the minimum and maximum processor power states for my Windows power plan. But still the CPU reaches above 57c and the machine whines when on AC power even at idle sometimes.

I've also tried using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to undervolt the CPU but I haven't been able to get the temps I want.

Some sort of "battery power mode" is being turned on when the machine is not on AC power. It does exactly what I need it to do temperature and sound wise all by itself but ONLY while running on battery power.

I'd like to somehow trick windows into thinking the laptop is on battery power so the battery power system profile is enabled while the laptop is on the charger.

    Is this possible?

    Thanks.

    Laptop specs:

    i7-8750H

    RTX 2070

    16GB

  2. Plugged in but battery does not charge

If the laptop works without the battery then charger is functioning correctly. Take a cloth with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it (or some on-the-go alcohol swabs), and clean the metal contacts that connect your battery to your laptop.

Make sure to install all Windows important updates.

Install latest versions of your laptop device drivers you can download the latest device drivers from the device manufacturer or from your laptop manufacturer website.

    Step 1

    1. Shutdown your laptop.

    2. Remove the battery.

    3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

    4. Power on the laptop

    5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

    6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).
