Windows 10: I cannot run the Windows Updates troubleshooter due to a weird error

I am unable to run the troubleshooter for the Windows Updates to an error that pops up.


The error reads as follows:



'C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdt.exe


Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item. '



I say the error is weird because there is only one account on my laptop and its an admin account with the appropriate permissions. I've tried restarting my PC and signing out and back it but nothing changes.

Error 0x803C0103 when troubleshooting

My last update was 1703 haven't been able to get any other updates. I get error code 0x800704cf tried using troubleshooter got error code 0x803c0103 not sure what to do next

 

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.


Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
