Disable security prompt when attempting to open locally stored files?

    Hi Everyone,

I have a lot of .gif files stored locally on my hard drive. Whenever I try to open one, I get this popup window that asks, "Do you want to open this file?" There is a checkbox I can click on so I won't be prompted forTHIS file again, but I keep getting the same popup for all the other files... going to be kind of tedious to open them all one at a time and check that little box for each one..... unless there's a way to turn off this particular feature?

Couldn't find a thing in the various settings available; found other people complaining about this elsewhere on the 'net, and many of them managed to make it go away by editing the Local Group Policy via gpedit.msc. This doesn't come with Windows 10 Home Edition, but it can be downloaded/installed, which I have done. However, when following the steps outlined, there is no result, no change; I keep getting prompted with the popup. Rebooting didn't help, either.

Has anyone found a way to get rid of this? I could understand this caution if I were opening something on the web, but these are locally stored & scanned files, and are known to be safe. The constant prompting is unnecessary and just slows things down. Thanks for any input!

    :)

Reg/batch to disable "Open File - Security Warning"

That's ok. To help clarify for everyone, which registry editing did you use and apply?

In addition, what error message are you trying to get rid of?

If you mean for the "Open-File Security Warning" message, then you could use the download in step 5 of OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to disable it.

Microsoft Store prompting for PIN on attempt to purchase

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To have clarity on this issue and guide you accordingly, kindly help us with the following information.

    • Are you signed into the same Microsoft account on Store?
    • What happens when you enter the password? Do you read any error code/message?
    • Is it prompting to set up a new PIN or enter an existing PIN?

This issue might occur if you’ve not signed out of the Store after setting up the new password. You may want to sign out of the Store, reset its cache and then sign in to see if the issue persists.

    • Open Microsoft Store, sign out of the same and exit.
    • Press ‘Windows + R’ keys on the keyboard together to open the Run dialog box and type the following into the Run box:
      wsreset.exe
    • Wait until the Store automatically opens and sign in to the same with your account using the updated password.
    • Try purchasing now to see if the issue persists.

If the Store is asking you to enter an existing PIN and you don’t have one, I suggest you to try the following:

    • Open Settings and click on Accounts.
    • On the left pane, click on Sign-in options and locate
      PIN on the right pane.
    • Click on Remove, and enter your account credentials to confirm.
    • Restart the machine and try purchasing to see if the issue persists.

  4. Disable security prompt when attempting to open locally stored files?

Windows 10 Store opens for no reason by it's self.

    Hi,

To resolve the issue with your Windows Store, we suggest that you reset it by following the steps listed:

    • Press Windows Key + R to open Run.
    • Type wsreset.exe, and click OK.

It will show a command prompt window which is blank, but it is clearing the cache. Just wait for the Store to close and open automatically.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards.
