ReadyBoost Drive For Windows 10 Pro - How do I use it? what's the process after I create it

    Hi-

BACKGROUND - I just noticed my disk was operating at 100% capability WAY too much - I did everything to make it better Virus scans - removing resource-hogging software - CMDs checking the state of the PC SFC/SCANNOW and all of the Health Checks - My RAM DID Improve - A lot after these measures - but the load on the Hard Drive seemed waaaayy too much.

So, I created a ReadyBoost drive for My Hard drive - formatted using NTFS on a 16gb 3.0 USB Drive dedicating the device to ReadyBoost. So far I think I've done it right onlyI do see the drive as showing up as Red in My PC Profile - I hope that won't make a difference.

But my question is HOW DO YOU USE IT?

    • Do you just plug it in and KEEP IT IN, while you power down? At a start-up? - and then keep it in the whole time you are working??
    • And, what happens if you have to power up using F11 and do a System restore? Do you still keep ReadyBoost in?

I created the ReadyBoost - It's in the socket and it does seem to be handling disk load. I JUST WANT TO USE IT PROPERLY.

I really can't find much on these questions. I can say I have a 1-1/2-year-old HP ENVY with 8GB RAM and 1T Storage +3T offline.

    MUCH THANKS!

    :)

    Regarding Windows ReadyBoost

readyboost is a step between memory and page file, that can help prevent slowdown when windows accesses the HDD.

ruski missed a key point to readyboost - its not about MB/s throughput, its about lowered access times for those small files that are constantly being accessed

The readyboost tab is missing but is enabled in services.why?

    Hi,

Device compatibility is one of the reasons why the ReadyBoost tab is missing. Kindly provide the following answers to the questions below to further isolate the issue:

    • What is the make and model of the flash drive that you are using for ReadyBoost?
    • Have you tried inserting the flash drive to another USB port?

In the meantime, we suggest updating the driver for your USB drive. This will help us identify if the issue is caused by outdated drivers. Kindly follow the steps on this article to update it:
