    Explorer.EXE occasionally crashes when Task View button is pressed.


    As the title says. Usually when I click the Task View button it works fine, but sometimes Explorer.EXE crashes and the taskbar reloads.


    I have tried a clean install of Windows and it is still present. Would someone be able to help me troubleshoot this?


    I found the following in the Event Viewer:

    Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.



    I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

    I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    Step1: End Task the Windows Explorer.

    • Open task manager (CRTL+SHIFT+ESC)
    • Right-click on windows explorer
    • End task (Note: don’t close Task manager)
    • Click on File > Run new task
    • Type explorer.exe and press enter
    • Your search bar should be functional again.


    Step 2: If Taskbar is not working then I suggest you to check for the latest updates.


    • Press Windows logo key +R, enter
      MS-settings:
      and then press OK. This opens Settings.

    • In Settings, go to Update & security >
      Windows Update, and then select Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your PC if required.


    Step 3: Some problems can be fixed by signing out of your account and then signing back in. Press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete and select
    Sign out. Once you’ve signed out, sign back in to your account.

    i suggest to Follow the below steps:

    To start your system in safe mode with Networking, follow the below steps:

    Press and hold Shift key and restart your Computer.

    Select Troubleshoot.

    Select Advance Option.

    Select Startup Settings.

    Follow the on Screen instruction.

    Select Safe mode with Networking, from the list of options

    Also you can to restart Windows Explorer

    Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete from you Keyboard.

    Then click on Task Manager.

    Now find Windows Explorer from process list of windows task manager.

    Right click on Windows Explorer & select restart.

    Hi Thomas,

    As there is no Open Button in the error display Window, I suggest you to click on the Right Arrow button in the bottom left corner and check if it helps or displays the full error message.

    I suggest you to run the Internet Explorer Performance troubleshooter by following the steps provided below:

    • Type “Troubleshooting” in the search box and press Enter.
    • Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
    • Click on “Internet Explorer Performance” and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.
