OK in a Windows protected folder I can at least see why Microsoft want to safeguard key files. But even with UAC off, I am getting so fed up with being told I don't have permission to do this that or the other, or that access has been denied when I try to access/edit files or shortcuts that I have created. This is my private PC at home.. how dare Microsoft intrude like this? Makes me want to go over to Ubuntu or similar.

The final straw prompting this post, was this evening trying to change the details of a shortcut - in the Properties box, simply revising the Target details. The shortcut is just a link to a folder on another local drive, nothing to do with Microsoft at all.. a folder I created myself. But 'access was denied. So I have to locate the original files and make new shortcuts...

I am now extremely irritated at constantly being locked out of files and folders I have created in 'safe' parts of the PC i.e. not in Program Files, Windows, My Documents or similar. It's ridiculous and just serves to irritate Microsoft customers - locking up users' own files like this certainly serves no security purpose.

How do I turn this off, so that I can at least access and edit files and shortcuts that I have created? The files themselves, again, even though they are in a 'safe' location and simple texts or whatever, created by me, are all being marked read-only by Windows 10 x64, so I cannot edit them. Love to meet the person who devised this nonsense!

    Thank you.

    :)

    Destination Folder Access Denied

    Hi,

There are times that you may run into the issue of being unable to open or access or work with files and folder. The common message that flashes on your computer screen when you try doing so reads: "Access Denied."

This can occur for one or more of the following reasons:

    • The folder ownership may have changed.
    • You do not have the proper permissions.
    • The file may be encrypted.
    • The file may be in use.
    • The file may be corrupt.
    • The user profile may be corrupt.
To resolve this issue, the first step is to run CHKDSK. It detects and fix disk corruption. To run CHKDSK, follow these steps:

    • Press Win+X.
    • Select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • In the window that opens enter your CHKDSK command.
Get back to us to if you need further assistance.
