Windows 10: Weird sound driver issue with High Definition Audio Device driver.

For the last few months, there's been something off about the sound from computer. It's most pronounced if I'm watching Twitch, where there will be a major volume difference between the streamer's mic and the game audio, and no, it is not due to an individual streamer's setup, it happens on every stream.

Furthermore, if I watch on my laptop, listening through the crappy built-in speakers, the balance is fine on most streams.

I still have the problem if I listen through headphones and I also hauled the speakers from my stereo over to my desk and all they did was make the issue even more obvious.

I've tried the usual advice of uninstalling the "device" and rebooting the computer, but that doesn't seem to do anything. (Curiously, I've also noticed that there's still audio after uninstalling the device, before rebooting).

The only difference in settings between my laptop and my desktop is that my laptop uses the dreaded RealTek audio drivers that this kind of problem is usually blamed on... with the solution being to use the High Definition Audio Device driver.

I know this is an odd problem, but does anyone have any ideas? I'm about ready to try re-installing Windows at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

High Definition Audio Device drivers missing

Hi Davide

The High Definition Audio drivers are built into Windows already

Right click that device in Device Manager, choose 'Update Driver

Then choose 'Browse my computer for Driver Software' - 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers'

If you do not see the default High Definition Audio device, untick 'Show Compatible Hardware'

On the left, select Microsoft, then on the right scroll down to find 'High Definition Audio Device Version 10.0. . . . .

 

No Sound - Install IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver

There is much written on updating IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver for no sound. This I driver is not listed under the Device Manager sound file. How do I download this or how do I find it so I can add it?

 

NOT WORKING-Realtek audio drivers and Microsoft High Definition device

I've seen some videos which just tell you to update Realtek HD driver to the Microsoft driver. Sometimes it works for a while then it stops working. I just go into Device Manager>Sound, video and game controllers> Realtek High Definition audio (right click)>
Update driver software> Browse from my computer> Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer> High Definition audio device. It should update.
