Windows 10: My PC keeps waking up from sleep every time I wake my laptop from sleep.

The subject is pretty self-explaining I guess.

I run the same Windows 10 updates and everything is identical and up to date all the time. I'm not sure if someone is having the same issue or maybe other people just turn their PC off when they're not using it but I'm more a Sleep type person.


I bought my laptop 2 weeks ago, and I logged in with the same Microsoft account as I'm logged in on my PC. I'm not sure if this problem was since day 1 because I didn't pay attention but for the last couple of days, every time I wake up my laptop while my PC is on sleep, my PC gets woken as well and it creeps me out honestly. I'm also connected to the same network. I checked if I have TeamViewer on the background I heard sometimes apps like that can wake your PC unintentionally but everything was closed even Google Chrome.



Long story short: Is my PC possessed? :

I would be very happy if someone could help me with this situation. Thanks in advance.

Unable to wake from sleep from time to time

This is so stupid. Laptop for 250€ sleeps and wakes up perfectly. My former 6 years old rig was sleeping/waking up fine. My current system for what, 1200€ with brand new components, everything made for power efficiency. And it can't even freaking wake up from a god damn sleep. So I have it disabled which means it'll run for days if I forget to turn it off. Idiotic.

 

Troubleshooting PCs spontaneously waking from sleep

I've also battled with sleep/wake issues over the years, and from experience have learned that trying to find, or rationalise, the root cause is a waste of time. All you need is `powercfg`.

`powercfg -devicequery wake_armed` from an Administrator PowerShell window/Command Prompt will give you a list of all devices that can possibly wake the PC. This command is interesting because very often, it will show devices that you'd never expect being able to wake your computer. I think in one instance I had the chipset device listed!

`powercfg -devicedisablewake "device_name_from_device_query"`will prevent said device from ever waking the computer. This command is 100% the only thing I have found that will resolve sleep/wake problems. Updating drivers, unplugging peripherals, switching to a cleaner power supply (UPS), changing ethernet cables... none of those have helped, yet`powercfg -devicedisablewake` has done the trick.

Note that occasionally, devices you have disabled wake for may start waking up the PC again - this happens if you plug a USB device into a different port, or occasionally when drivers are updated, because Windows sees it as a new device. In that case rerun `powercfg` to find and disable that device again.

If this does not resolve your wake issues, I would start looking at power fluctuations.
