  1. Laptop running very often with core temperature around 70º-80º C

Hi. I use Windows 10 and I have a HP laptop (model 13-d000ns) and in the past few months the laptop has been running in a lower performance than in previous times (I bought it in 2016) with a lot of RAM usage and the fans running at very high speed sometimes. I have to say that around 1 year after buying the PC I had some problems with the temperature (touching the metal part between the screen and the keyboard meant almost burning your skin haha) that even made my PC get freezed and I had to restart it by "brute force" .

By that time I talked to the technical service and they solved it via remote control and installing some drivers and it worked out well.

But as I was saying before, the last months (maybe 6 or 7) have been a bit worse and it doesn't reach the point to make the PC freeze, but it gets too hot. I checked in the internet how much temperature is too much for a PC and I read that the core should not be working over 60º C. Well, I've been checking it and it goes over 60º almost constantly (maybe 60º is the lowest it reaches).

I checked the drivers I had and updated a few, and now the performance and temperature is better, but still a little bit high (core temperature graphs: example 1, example 2).

To make things easier, I have to say that I now have arount 10GB free of 118GB of the SSD, but it has happened to me having more capacity (around 20-25 GB). Is there any good tool for optimasing the PC performance (clearing RAM, trash files...)?

  2. temperature

CoreTemp calculates the maximum temperature as the TJMax showing there.

"Just above the temperature listing, Core Temp lists a value labeled "Tj. Max," with no explanation. I found this part confusing at first, but once I Googled it, I discovered it stands for "junction temperature max," which is electronics-speak for the highest
temperature the CPU is rated for (90° C / 194° F in my case). You can use this value to see at a glance how hot the processor really is, relative to its maximum. But just because your processor is 10 degrees under the maximum doesn't mean you're safe. The
Core Temp FAQ states that the temperature should be kept around 20° C/68° F or lower below its Tj. Max. value while under full load."

    It's explained further here:

Do you think that's a better tutorial than the Windows Club I had previously linked which gave you a bum steer on the Download? I will replace it if you think so.

    Laptop temperature problems

My laptop temps are in the low 70's on the desktop doing nothing.

If I play scrabble sometimes the screen tears when I win and the fireworks start. If I use Skype or watch YouTube it gets too hot almost immediately and shuts itself down.

I opened it up and gently brushed off the most obvious lumps of dust from the last decade but it made no difference. I also replaced the HDD with a SSD in the hope of reducing the temperature. This was an improvement for performance but the CPU temps didn't drop.

It is a laptop so I can't see what I can do really. Can you replace the CPU paste on a laptop? Should I (as this suggests) stick the motherboard in the oven to remelt the solder? Is it wise and what bits on a motherboard are temperature sensative and should be removed before hand? It seems a bit drastic to me.

It is a 2006 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with an ATI X1600 GPU which I realise is a bit out of date. Software wise it works fine with a clean install of Windows 10 though - my question is only about if there is something you can do with old laptops to reduce idle temps.

Laptop running very often with core temperature around 70º-80º C

    Disable system cooling

70° is too hot for an AMD chip.
Also youre saying that you have a "big and effective radiator" on your CPU.

If your temperatures are still this high, there is something wrong with your cooler installation.
