Windows 10: Integrated Webcam light comes on BUT NO image

I have win10 64 bit uptodate on my 10 yr old lenovo B570 laptop which has an integrated webcam


In March 2020 i was able to use the camera during a Skype meeting.


However when i tried to join a Teams session, the light came on intermittently but whilst I could see the people on the other end, they could not see me.


I tried the following trouble shooting steps without any real success - very occasionally 1% of the time, when i clicked on Camera from the start menu, i saw an image, but when i reopened the Camera, light ON plus controls but no image


1. ensured privacy settings were all set to ON - which they were anyway


2. removed Skype and Teams from the laptop


3. . uninstalled the camera - which was originally located under Imaging Devices in Device Manager and then reinstalled scan hardware changes the camera which was now located in the new location under Cameras . The setting Imaging Devices had disappeared.


4. went to the Camera app and Reset it.


5. searched on Lenovo site for new drivers but there weren't any


6. did windows updates


7. downloaded Lenovo Vantage app which failed to see the camera under devices settings. i need to contact them about this


8. the camera currently has windows drivers installed as the best drivers


The question is, why has the camera stopped working now when it did 2 months ago? I am aware that since that time, there has been some large MS windows updates and so i have to wonder if the is a connection?

Webcam light coming on by itself


Alright so this is making me a fair bit suspicious. Every now and then the webcam light on my laptop comes on even when I have no programs running that run webcams (e.g. Skype).

I disabled the driver for the webcam and the light turned off, did a restart, and then enabled the driver again. When I did, the light wasn't on.

Is this a system glitch or is it something I should be worried about? I've already run programs like MalwareBytes, CCleaner, and Avast to see if there was any issue, but nothing came up.

 

Integrated webcam not working

0xA00F4244 error code may be caused by an antivirus software that's blocking the camera or it could be an outdated webcam driver. Follow the troubleshooting steps below:

Method 1: Disable antivirus.

In your antivirus app, look for settings related to blocking access or permission to use your webcam. For help, visit your antivirus software company’s website.

Method 2: Check for an outdated webcam driver.

• Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and then select
  Device Manager from the search results.
• Find your webcam under Imaging devices or Sound, video and game controllers.
• Press and hold (or right-click) the name of your webcam, and then select
  Properties.
• Select the Driver tab, select the Driver Details button, and look for a file name that includes
  stream.sys. If it’s there, your webcam was designed before Windows 7 and you'll have to replace it with a newer webcam.
• If you don't find a file name that includes stream.sys, try rolling back your webcam driver.

Method 3: Roll back your webcam driver.

• In Device Manager, press and hold (or right-click) your webcam, and then select
  Properties.
• Select the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver, and then choose
  Yes. (Note that some drivers don’t provide a rollback option.)
• After the rollback is complete, restart your PC, and then try opening the Camera app again.
• If rolling back didn’t work or isn’t available, uninstall your webcam driver and scan for hardware changes.
  

Method 4: Uninstall your webcam driver and scan for hardware changes.

• In Device Manager, press and hold (or right-click) your webcam, and then select
  Properties.
• Select the Driver tab, select Uninstall >
  Delete the driver software for this device, and then select OK.
• In Device Manager, on the Action menu, select
  Scan for hardware changes. Wait for it to scan and reinstall updated drivers, restart your PC, and then try opening the Camera app again.
  
• If your webcam still doesn’t work, try looking for help on the webcam manufacturer’s website.

Imaging Devices missing in Device Manager and Webcam doesn't working

Since you mentioned that the said driver is missing in Device Manager, what we suggest is for you to check in the Hidden Devices section on Device Manager. Kindly follow the steps below:

• On the desktop, press Windows key + X and select
  Device Manager.
• Click on View and select
  Show Hidden Devices.
• Check for the webcam under Imaging Devices.
• If the webcam is listed, then right-click on it and select
  Update Driver Software
• Select Browse My Computer for Driver Software and follow the prompted steps.
