Windows 10: External hard drive constantly disconnecting and disconnecting

I have a brand new device and I tried to plug in my hard drive to retrieve some of my files but the hard drive kept disconnecting from my device and I was unable to keep it open for more than two minutes at a time. Sometimes it would show the error message "a device which does not exist was specified"

Also the hard drive worked on my previous laptop and is still working on other laptops.

Method 2: Check if you can see the device in Device Manager

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click on Device manager.
• Click on View Tab, Select Show hidden devices.
• Click on Scan for Hardware changes.
• Check if the devices show up in Device Manager in the device list.

external hard drive is connecting and the disconnecting.

I have a Seagate 5 TB external hard drive. I've had it for years. We have had it hooked up to our xbox. Today we turned on the xbox and it wasn't registering that the external hard drive was connected. So I hooked the external hard drive up to my Alienware laptop. It does not show up in the File explorer. I opened up Device Manager and opened disk drives. When I hook up the external hardware it will populate in the disk drive sub folder for about five seconds. And then it disappears. I have to un plug it and plug it back in to get it to pop back up for another 5 seconds. When I right click on the external hard drive it says it is working fine. Then when it disconnects it gives me error code 45 - device disconnected. But it isn't disconnected. Any ideas?

Windows metiance, power management settings ( both the windows power settings and the device manager power settings).

What is the drive interface, usb firewire, esata and is it an add in card or part of the motherboard.

What size is the hard drive in gigabytes, the format mbr or gpt.

Type of drive, backup, storage, raid, drive placed into an enclosure or self contained unit; seagate backup plus etc.

If you are using the drive, running programs, transferring files, listing to music, does it still disconnect or only when idle.

Does it have its own software, management program ?

Is the drive set for easy disconnect, better performance, using drive cash ?
