Why does Apps and Features say it’s taking up more storage than the sum of the apps?

I’m trying to make room on my computer and noticed that Apps and Features in storage settings says it takes up 134GB. I went through all the apps to try and figure out how the heck that happened and noticed that:

1 there are a bunch of apps that don’t list a storage size beside them this includes things from Epson, Dropbox, Norton Security, Spotify, Steam, etc. I also uninstalled Spotify to see how much it would make a difference and nothing changed, even after a restart.

2 if I add up everything manually, including my best estimates for these files without the storage size listed, I come at most to 50GB. Are there other apps in this section that aren’t shown or why would this be happening?

    :)

  2. Why do apps take up more space than they indicate in the marketplace?

My phone is constantly running out of space so I decided to tabulate the amount of space that the games I have installed should take up.

To do this I went through the list on the marketplace and wrote down how much space each app is supposed to use. According to this all my games should take up around 2GB. I am using a Lumia 710 which should have 6.28GB of usable storage space. This made
me wonder what was taking up the other 4GB.

Since I needed space I uninstalled a few games. I then went to the about page under settings, which told me that I had 1.49GB of storage space remaining. I knew that I did not uninstall enough apps to free up this space.

I then went to the marketplace and reinstalled a game that I had just uninstalled. The app said that it required 124MB of space. After it was installed I returned to the about page and it said I had 993.56MB of free space.

    So my question is:

Why does a game that is listed at 124MB take up over 500MB?

Apps & features disc space doesn't add up to storage use listed

Under "Settings," and "Storage," my OS_Install (CWhy does Apps and Features say it’s taking up more storage than the sum of the apps? :) total size is 238 GB.

Under "This is how your storage is used and how you can free up space," it says...

    Apps & features....98.8 GB

Yet even a cursory total of all programs listed (by size) under Apps & features reveals a total of about 1.5 GB.

And, a bunch of programs are listed at the bottom (including at least one that needs a lot of storage space) without *any* numbers.

Should I presume that the Settings -> Storage utility is incapable of listing ALL programs and all of the space they require?

Why the massive difference (98.8 GB vs 1.5 GB)?

  4. Why does Apps and Features say it’s taking up more storage than the sum of the apps?

Windows 10 displays more App storage than actual!!

    Hi,

I'm using Windows 10 in Asus E200HA which comes with only 32GB EMMC memory.

The Storage Setting displays 1.58GB of installed Apps & Games, but the list shows only 32 apps (including the drivers) which sums
    350MB max.

Kindly guide me how can I free my valuable storage.

    Thanks in advance.
