  1. Cannot boot Windows installation flash disk correctly.

I have been a Linux user for some years and have decided to switch to Windows 10. My contemporary operating system is Arch Linux.

I downloaded the newest ISO from Microsoft's website and used GNOME Disks to write it to a USB flash disk. Then I inserted it to my computer HP ZBook 14u G5 and rebooted to boot menu. I found my flash disk and then selected it. However, after the screen blanks for less than a second, it returns to the boot menu. I cannot enter the Windows installation environment at all.

I've tried 'dd' command but had the same result. Is it the problem with 'dd' tool GNOME Disks is based on it or I should burn the ISO in a different way? If so, what utility can I use on Linux?

    :)

Installing windows off of a USB stick

    Step By Step from vista:
    From admin cmd prompt

    1. diskpart
    1a. list disk
    2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

  3. How to make a flash drive boot disk?

I still suggest Ultimate Boot CD, I have the link a few posts back. You can boot to DOS and run the flashing utilities right off your hard disk, it's safer too because you don't have to worry about a corrupt floppy.

Cannot boot Windows installation flash disk correctly.

Windows 10 installation. Error: Windows Cannot Be Installed to This Disk. This Computer's Hardware May not Support Booting to This Disk".

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I suggest to try with the below mentioned steps

If you have more than one hard drive connected to your computer, remove the additional hard drives and keep only the primary one.

If it does not work, back up your data, delete all the existing partitions and let installer create the new partitions.

I also suggest to try with changing the hard drive mode in BIOS.

If it is set to IDE, change it to
AHCI, if the current mode is AHCI, change it to
    IDE.

Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

If none of these suggestions work, boot the computer to Windows Recovery environment using the installation media.

    1. Choose Repair your computer on the initial Windows setup screen.
    2. Go to Troubleshoot->Advanced options->Command prompt and execute the following commands one by one.
    3. Diskpart
    4. List Disk
    5. Select disk disk 0 (Note: remove all additional disks).
    6. Create partition primary.
    7. Exit.
Reboot the computer and see if you can proceed with installation.

If you still get the same error, delete the partition, select the unallocated partition and click
    Next to proceed with installation.

    Hope it helps.
