  1. How do I forget an old "Hidden Network", which is my iPhone wifi hotspot?

Long story here, please read carefully, I'll try to be as clear as possible...

I have a Windows 10 PC. Months ago, I used my iPhone as a wifi personal hotspot. The SSID appeared automatically in my Wifi list on my PC as "iPhone", and my iPhone default password was some gibberish like "hwT8$kFQ603". I don't know exactly what it was, that's just an example.

So all I did was click on "iPhone" in the Wifi list, then enter my password, "hwT8$kFQ603". Simple. It worked fine, connected no problem.

Then I didn't use it again for months.

Today, I went into my iPhone settings, wanting to make an easier to remember Wifi hotspot password, so I changed the password from "hwT8$kFQ603" to "Marsupial55".

Then I went into my PC, brought up the Wifi options. I can see all my neighbors' wifi in there with 1 bar each, but I no longer see "iPhone" as a wifi option. I do see "Hidden Network", which I've never seen before, and it's 5 bars, which makes me believe that it's my iPhone, which is sitting 3 feet away from me. If I try to connect to "Hidden Network" automatically, it doesn't connect. If I try to connect to "Hidden Network" by typing in "iPhone" as the SSID and "Marsupial55", it doesn't connect.

If I left click, in hopes of forgetting this network, it doesn't give me a "Forget" option, only a "Connect" option. I went into "Network Settings", "Manage Known Networks", and "Show Available Networks"...Nothing I can do there.

Finally, I had my wife bring me her iPhone and turn on Wifi Hotspot. We have the same version iPhone It is named "Wife's iPhone". Again, I couldn't see this in the Wifi list. So, I clicked on "Hidden Network", Connect, entered the SSID of "Wife's iPhone", entered the password, "Wifespassword22", and it connected successfully. So I'm currently connected to that.

She took her phone away into another room, so down to 2 bars. In the Wifi list, I see I'm connected to "Wife's iPhone", with 2 bars. My iPhone is still in the room with me, but I still don't see "iPhone" in the wifi list. I still see "Hidden Network", and it has 5 bars, so I think it's still seeing my iPhone. If I try to connect use my iPhone's credentials, it still doesn't work.

I searched online, found no answers, and have no idea how to fix this. I can't see my iPhone as option to connect to, and when I try to use my iPhone credentials under "Hidden Network", it doesn't work.

All I can think to try next is to rename my iPhone to be something else, but I'm not sure that would even work. I should also add that reverting to my old password "hwT8$kFQ603" is not an option, because I don't remember it. My guess is it somehow remembers the old password associated with that SSID, and now doesn't want to let me update it.

Very frustrating, as this should be the most basic thing in the world to do. "Hidden Network" seems unnecessarily complicated.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!! John

    :)

    Blackberry Q10 wifi Hotspot Hidden

I just recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 (clean install) to see what it has to offer, and so far everything works fine. Except last evening during a class I teach I needed a wifi connection so I enabled the Hotspot feature my BB Q10. But its broadcast SSID was not showing as an available wifi network. There was a strong Hidden Network appearing on the list, but I did not want to try it as I was in a public environment. A student in the class enabled their iPhone's hotspot which I could see and used that instead. The same student (and others) could see my Blackberry SSID on their phones.

When I got home I checked with my wife's iPad and she could see the BB Hotspot SSID and successfully logged into it. She then enabled the Hotspot feature on her iPhone and its SSID was displayed on my Lenovo laptop's available networks.

I then manually typed in the SSID name into the strong Hidden Network displayed on the available networks list and I could then connect to it without problems. I also used a network sniffing tool on he same laptop (inSSIDer 4) and it displays the Q10 SSID being broadcast and is not a hidden network. But it just will NOT display its identity on the laptop's wifi list of "available networks".

    - The Q10 is broadcasting its SSID as other devices see it
    - The laptop sees the SSID using the inSSIDer utility and it does not appear to be hidden
    - I can see and access other phone's hotspot SSID's with the same laptop
    - My list of available networks shows the BB SSID as as Hidden Network (without a name)
    - Everything worked fine with Windows 8.1 on the same laptop.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks *Smile

  3. N97 "forgets" hidden wifi profiles

Hi, I was able to connect with the N97 type RM-505 to my home wifi which uses a simple 64 bit WEP and is hidden. But if the phone is in offline mode, every time I want to use the internet in this area, the N97 has no recollection of the wifi profile, it
just shows me the "Search for wlan" dialogue and then shows the list of visible wifi networks around (mine isn't there) so I have to select it from "show hidden networks" and then re-enter the wifi name and password, and then it connects and tells me that
it is the "xxx-2" or "xxx-3" ...etc copy of that wifi network, meaning it does keep the old profiles somewhere, even though it doesn't automatically select them or let me manually select them... how do I solve this... the phone uses firmware 22.0.110 custom
version 22.0.110.280.5 and there are no new updates.

    Thanks

What really is this "Hidden Network" and what is it's purpose?? is this someone using my wifi? someone using my connection? Please explain what this is and why I am seeing this on Win 10 when I never saw a "Hidden Network" when I was using Win Vista.

    Thanks!
