Windows 10: Why do I see two different versions 1909 vs 2004

Hello,


I have two laptops


One windows 10 Pro with version 2004 Build 19041.421

the other version Win10 Enterprise 1909 Built 18363.959


Not sure why they are different , should not be the same?

1909 vs 2004

I thought (maybe) or suggested (possibly) this seemed to be true immediately with 2004, but after being with it for a few days I do find & feel 2004 superior to 1909. No, this isn't from fancy lab set ups & testing
or Swiss stop-watches... nothing but, plain ole everyday use.

2004, same hardware, same software, definitely is faster, snappier, more responsive & more fluid than 1909 (was).

Update to Windows 10 version 2004

I do not see a conflict with your hardware, and seeing as you have version 1909 installed, your system should take version 2004, however, Microsoft do not release a list of compatible hardware, only known conflicts.

If you choose to install version 2004, that will either succeed or it will not and your PC will roll back to 1909 . . .

 

I never did install version 1909 -- do I have to?

I suggest that you image your current installation and then try a 1909 update. (You do already have an external backup drive and imaging software, right?) Or, wait a few weeks, and go straight to 2004.

It's possible to have trouble with an OS update, but it's not the usual. Especially if your current OS is healthy.

I'd sing the praises of 1909, but I switched to 2004 once it got close enough to release that he build have no insider watermarks or expiration dates. (2004 appears to not be very different from 1909.)

My main complaint with Win10 updates is in the past MS has run two updates a year. The feature changes didn't always seem to justify an update. I'd hope they'd change to a less political release schedule, with updates based less on the calendar.
