Windows 10: Settings close when trying to rename Computer Hostname.

Hello MS Community,

I have trouble renaming my PC's Hostname in Windows Settings.


I can open Settings normally and change other options, but whenever I try to rename my Computers Hostname Settings close automatically.


I have Windows 10 64bit on a HP Laptop in dual boot with Linux Mint.

Windows freshly reinstalled, works flawlessly.


My Account has Administrator privileges and is the only Account.

Help appreciated.

Set the N95's hostname

Hi,

How would I be able to set the hostname for the N95 similar to a PCs computer name? When viewing the dhcp client list on a dhcp server, the N95 shows up as having no hostname. The MAC address, along with the assigned IP address is listed though.

Any ideas? So far I have only seen how to assign a name to the phone for bluetooth purposes but this name does not show on WLAN obviously.

Renaming the Computer...

I suggest you to rename the computer name as below and check if the issue persists.

Here’s how to rename the computer on Windows 10:

• Click on the Search icon in the taskbar Search icon;
• Search Rename this computer and click on the result;
• Click Change;
• Rename the computer and then click OK to save.

Hostname wrong

No, that didn't work. I already had renamed the published bluetooth name. That has no effect on the device's hostname.



In order to rename the device use the command

hostname <newhostname>



to permanently change the hostname change the file /etc/hostname and reboot.



to gain access to the file use the root command. To get the root command install the rootsh package.
