Alright so i probably deleted a registry file i shouldnt have while trying to fix something. The System Restore has been in the “restoring files...” state for about 1 hour now and I’m not sure if it’s frozen or just slow. I know that interrupting this can possibly brick my computer.

“Critical_process_died” (BSOD) was the error message I received upon attempting to restart. This ends up on my screen again when the restart happens, so I’m gonna say that it’s probably going to happen on a loop.

For what its worth: The green bar is moving, the mouse cursor is moving and I am also able to move the System Restore box all without issue, lag or delay.

I updated my laptop last night and I heard that updates can do this as well, but I’m more convinced it’s the registry because I didn’t have an issue until I deleted that registry file. It immediately began to be slow and unresponsive. This is when i attempted the restart.

If it IS frozen, then how can i tell? I dont wanna turn it off and end up bricking it.

I have a registry file backup and it just dawned onto me about 40mins into this that I should have ran that in safe mode, but im too deep into this to interrupt it.

    Windows 10 system restore frozen.

I decided to try system restore after getting the'critical error' message that the start menu was not working. Now, it's obvious that system restore is frozen as it's been running for 90 minutes and for the last 80 minutes has been'initializing'. Is there
any way of getting out of this situation and getting my laptop back to normal again? I am so fed up with Windows 10 that I would happily go back to Windows 7 if possible. Would it be possible to power down and then re-boot from my Windows 7 disc. This is a
disc I made and not one which came with the laptop, so I'm not even sure whether or not it will work. If it's possible to do this I would appreciate a step by step explanation of how to go about this. I'm not into the technical side of computers so simple
easy to follow instructions would be great.Thanks.
