  1. Windows Hello biometric options shows This option is unavailable

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad S540-15IML. This device comes with a fingerprint scanner. However when trying to setup the Windows Hello biometric options, I see the various options as grayed out with the message This option is unavailable. I have tried many options listed on web to fix the issue but can't seem to fix it. Can anyone please help?

    Hi Experts,

Yesterday we have bought two brand new HP Envy 13 AQ1013DX and as per our normal procedure installed Windows 10 Pro 2004 and Joined Domain and everything installed and configured as per our requirement.

When I am trying to set up Windows Hello (Fingerprint, Face, and PIN) all these options come with error

Hi! I am an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. Do take note that as independent advisors we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. I will try my best to help you out.

Option 1: Create an Entry in Regedit to allow PIN Logon

Make sure to create a backup of your Registry since the steps involve registry modification:

    1. Kindly click on the Windows Logo and on search type regedit

    2. Open Registry Editor

    3. On the Registry Editor window

    4. Click on Computer on the left pane

    5. Click File

    6. Click Export

    7. Enter a Name

    8. Choose a location to save a backup of your registry and Click Save.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Make sure to follow the steps below correctly.

Once you are done backing up your registry, follow the steps below:

    1. Press Windows Key +R > On the Run window type regedit > click Ok

    2. In the Registry Editor window go to the following location.

    Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft > Windows > System

    3. Click once on the System folder to highlight it. A few entries may show up on the right pane

    4. Right-click on a blank area on the right pane > Click New > Click DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    Name the value: AllowDomainPINLogon

    5. Press Enter.

    6. Doubleclick on AllowDomainPINLogon > under Value Data change the value from 0 to 1

    7. Click Ok.

    8. Make sure to Restart your computer for the changes to take effect

    9. Check if the Windows Hello option is now working. You may need to reregister your Hello options if needed.

    Option 2: Restart Biometric Services.

    1. Right-click on the Start icon and choose Run. Once you open Run dialog box, insert services.msc and click OK.

    2. On the Services console, scroll and right-click Windows Biometric Service. Choose Stop to put an end to the service.

    3. Next, create a backup of the biometric data files. To do so, first, open File Explorer and navigate to the below location –

    C:\Windows\System32\WinBioDatabase

    4. Copy the items of WinBioDatabase and save them to a separate folder on a safe location. Name that new folder as WinBioBackup.

    5. After creating the backup, delete the files from the original folder.

    6. Now, head back to the Services manager again, right-click on Windows Biometric Service, and select Restart.

    7. Once the above steps are done, fire up Settings => Accounts => Sign -in options => and go through the registration procedure again to re-register the biometric.

If the device has multiple users, each of them has to re-register.

Option 3: This step works only for Windows 10 Pro Users and Higher versions

    1. Press Windows + R > type gpedit.msc to open Local Group Policy Editor.

    2. Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon

    3. On the right-hand pane look for Turn on convenience PIN sign-in and double click on it.

    4. Select the Enable radio button > Click OK.

    5. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect then check if Windows Hello is now working.

Option 4. Please check the article below, Make sure that the troubleshooting steps are performed if the methods above did not work for you.
