Windows 10: Windows 10 Update - Mouse/USB Freezing & Sticking Issues

Device: Surface Pro 7


Issue Notes:

- Mouse & Keyboard appears to be intermittently freezing/sticking

- A Windows restart fixes issue temporary and after a couple minutes does the same thing as above.

- Cannot do any real work like this and have had to ditch the surface dock for now to keep working with some normality but still happens every now and then.


Troubleshooting Steps Done.

- Tried reinstalling Mouse driver and updating firmware.

- Tried updating Windows 10.

- Tried updating Dock.

- Tried uninstalling dock drivers and software in programs and features.

- Went through Device Manager to uninstall dock.


Things to also note.

- Its a work machine domain connected

- SFC and DISM show no store corruption/Windows Corruption.

- Restarted the dock left disconnected for a couple minutes

- CPU monitor shows nothing out of the ordinary.

- Downloaded the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit which ran a 2 minute system repair then it asked me to reset the machine and contact my workplace IT support speaking.

USB mouse is affected by [power plan advanced settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend settings] set this to disabled.

I suggest create a new power profile just for gaming, so you dont have to change the presets and forget what settings you changed in them. *Stick Out Tongue

AMD doesnt like to play nice with windows CPU control settings so also consider changing the minimum processor state to 85%

I am a Java dev, hence i need java *Stick Out Tongue I run windows update when im not really using the network. I had a 80mbps plan and windows update would saturate the whole bandwidth.

I dont need a software sheild because i have a common sense. I have gone a long long time without any antivirus. Only recently did i pick up one. I went around 4 years without any issues.

This IS a clean install unfortunately. I wish i never went away from 8.1 *Frown

GUYS i have noticed that when i am playing and it stutters, the mouse control actually transfers from the game i am playing to the desktop!!

I tried this by putting taskmanager above all other windows and then playing a game. WHenever it stutters, i can see mouse moving across task manager. :/

i only have mouse and keyboard connected. dont use anything else.

PC is chill. CPU on load is less than 55C. I have lots of fans!

When i restart the PC it goes away, so pretty sure thats not heat.

I changed my port too! it came back again after some time. Windows 10 really sucks.
