Windows 10: How to keep route alive using cellular currently disconnecting when I connect ethernet

Hi,


I have a development board which is running windows 10 pro. On the board there are two Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections including 1 cellular.


On the other hand I have windows server. There is a VPN tunnel between cellulardev board and the server in Azure.


I am using SSH tunnel to rdp the dev board from the server mainly because rdp port is restricted on the server whereas SSH is available. This is again is only available when i have dev board running using cellular.


At the time when I have rdp running from server to the dev board, the only live connection is cellular and I have not connected the ethernet adapters or wi-fi. As soon as i connect the ethernet connection, the rdp drops and at this point i am able to ping the sim IP but not able to rdp. RDP comes up saying internal error. Which looks like something goes wrong when i have ethernet connected.


I want to get to the point where I use cellular to connect the dev board to the server. Run the rdp using the SSH tunnel. Connect the I/O to ethernet and not get disconnected on the rdp running.


There is no monitor on the dev board, so the only connection that i can make on the device is using either ethernet/Wi-Fi or cellular.


I am not using Ethernet for internet, but using for another interface.


I have tried giving the priority to the cellular, but it does not work.


I have tried to add some persistant route and it still does not work.

Windows 10 Cellular connection disconnects automatically on a new Ethernet connection

I have a fitlet2 device that supports cellular connection in windows 10. It disconnects the cellular connection automatically when an Ethernet cable is plugged in. I want the cellular connection to be always on regardless. I don't care about saving data
so please don't advice me on disconnecting the Cellular connection option. I want the cellular on all the time.

 

Cellular Disconnected

I have a cellular modem in my Dell Precision 3520. I used it Friday without any problems at all. Today, as I'm at work, I cannot connect to AT&T's cellular network.

When I click the network icon in the system tray, it shows my cellular connection as "AT&T (HSPA)" and then reads "Disconnected" underneath it. It shows 5 bars. If I open network properties and try to troubleshoot the adapter, it gives me a SIM2 error that says I need to enter a PIN code (there is no PIN code on the SIM card, but just for troubleshooting purposes I added one, still got the same error, and then ultimately removed it again).

Things I have tried so far:

• Toggling cellular on/off
• Rebooted computer (several times)
• Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (twice)
• System restore to the point where it was working the other day
• Ejecting the SIM card and reinserting it
• Verifying that data is turned on with my AT&T count
• Enabling/disabling PIN code
• Resetting network settings via command prompt
• Creating a new APN (with phone, NXTGENPHONE, etc.)

Any tips?

 

Cellular connection has transformed into an Ethernet connection

Day 3 and it's got a lot more interesting.

Started up my laptop/notebook and the connection had reverted to an Ethernet connection. When I noticed this, I disconnected the dongle so that the laptop would revert to my wireless connection but at the same time the connection switched back to cellular.

I then pressed the power button to put my laptop into hibernation and pressed again to restart it. Now the connection was set to Ethernet. I pulled the dongle out again and the connection disappeared. After re-inserting it was set to Ethernet but it wasn't
connecting (it was set to Ethernet 2 but made no mention of "3" whereas normally the connection is labelled as "3" so everything was very-much broken at this stage). Hibernated and restarted again and it was Ethernet "3" and connected this time. Pulled the
dongle out and re-inserted to get cellular again.

Clearly disconnecting and reconnecting the dongle while powered up does something to reset the connection to cellular, at least some of the time, but it then reverts to Ethernet after putting the laptop into hibernation and restarting. So where do we start
to diagnose this?
