  1. Computer Having problems waking from sleep as well as a phantom USB device? Please help.

I have a PC that I built for myself and it has been great, I work in IT so most problems I am usually able to solve without any help, but this issue is making me pull my hair out. The first issue is that of a phantom USB controller? I have an error code 10 USB xHCI compliant host controller in my device manager but all my USB ports are working. It is getting unable to migrate errors? I tried to track down where the hell the thing was but it is a phantom USB hub and has me stumped as to how to get rid of it or fix the unable to start error. (I have tried uninstalling the device and a ton of other stuff like checking Regedit for high/low pass). My current idea is that it is a leftover device from when I moved this boot drive from my last mobo to this one? I don't know at this point if this is related to issue one, but when I put my PC into sleep mode, it does not wake up afterward. The fans spin at max rpm but no lighting comes on and no display? only happens if asleep for more than a few mins. I am at a loss so any help would be greatly appreciated. (I am also a Windows Insider on 20H2 19042.630)

  2. Troubleshooting PCs spontaneously waking from sleep

I've also battled with sleep/wake issues over the years, and from experience have learned that trying to find, or rationalise, the root cause is a waste of time. All you need is `powercfg`.

`powercfg -devicequery wake_armed` from an Administrator PowerShell window/Command Prompt will give you a list of all devices that can possibly wake the PC. This command is interesting because very often, it will show devices that you'd never expect being able to wake your computer. I think in one instance I had the chipset device listed!

`powercfg -devicedisablewake "device_name_from_device_query"`will prevent said device from ever waking the computer. This command is 100% the only thing I have found that will resolve sleep/wake problems. Updating drivers, unplugging peripherals, switching to a cleaner power supply (UPS), changing ethernet cables... none of those have helped, yet`powercfg -devicedisablewake` has done the trick.

Note that occasionally, devices you have disabled wake for may start waking up the PC again - this happens if you plug a USB device into a different port, or occasionally when drivers are updated, because Windows sees it as a new device. In that case rerun `powercfg` to find and disable that device again.

If this does not resolve your wake issues, I would start looking at power fluctuations.

Mouse won't wake up computer from sleep.

When my computer goes to sleep, power light is blinking on the computer so perhaps it's deep sleep, moving the USB attached mouse does not wake it up.
Allow mouse to wake is enabled:

This used to work, even with 2004 but somewhere with one of their updates it stopped working. I tried a new mouse, same problem. Any suggestions?

Yes, I've done many Google searches and looked at lots of responses but there really is nothing more than the above as far as a suggested fix.

I've uninstalled the mouse from Device Manager then rebooted, no help.

USB attached keyboard works okay and wakes the computer.

wake from sleep issue in windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the command line below:
    Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

    3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

    Hope the information is helpful.
