Help with Upgrade to 10.0.19042 resulting in USB-C hub not recognizing any of the connected...

    30+ year IT Tech.

Hoping I can help Microsoft identify and resolve an issue before many users are affected and you are flooded with phone calls.

USB-C Hub Lasuney- Has 2 HDMI connected displays, 2 audio USB connections, 1 USB printer connection, one Internet wired connection. I use to switch all the devices between the Work and Home computers.

    2 computers:

Work - HP ENVY360 Laptop running Windows 10 10.0.17763 Build 17763 - per System Information

Home - HP ENVY360 Laptop running Windows 10 10.0.19042 Build 19042 - per System Information

Work Laptop - HUB and all connected devices work as expected 2 HDMI connected

    Home Laptop

    - Before Upgrade to 10.0.19042, HUB and all connected devices work as expected

    - After Upgrade to 10.0.19042 None of the devices on HUB are recognized by the laptop: Can't detect HDMI monitors, can't detect USB audio devices, can't use USB printer, can't use Internet connection.

    Tested as follows:

Each individual device was connected and tested against the home 10.0.19042 laptop and work all as expected.

After each test, the laptop was rebooted, still worked as expected, then connected to the Hub not recognized, rebooted but still not recognized.

Tried to upgrade each of the devices drivers Display, Monitors, Universal Serial Bus controllers, Universal Serial Bus devices and USB Connector Managers, but all suing original drivers and for all "Windows has determined that the best driver for this device is already installed."

Uninstalled the USB Connector Mangers and rebooted

I have a second USB-C hub from another company Totu - all the devices are recognized on the Work laptop and none of the devices are recognized on the Home laptop.

    None had any impact.

Switched HUB back to Work computer and all devices are recognized

Rebooted work computer and all devices are recognized.

Having been a lead troubleshooter, seems to indicate something in the upgrade.

Is there a patch available that would resolve this issue? Or is there a part of the upgrade I could uninstall?

Is it a security enhancement so that the USB-C cannot be recognized.

Willing to work with a Microsoft Engineer as I have for work-related issues if desired.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  2. USB HUB

    Hi,

Incompatible USB hub driver is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend uninstalling the USB Root Hub driver and see if it helps. Follow the stepes below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand.
    • Right-click USB Root Hub, then click Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab.
    • Click Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.
Note: Restarting your computer will automatically reinstall a generic driver for your computer. Also, we suggest connecting your USB hub while performing the steps.

If the issue still persists, let's disable the USB selective suspend settings thru Power Options to resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

    • Type Power Options in the search box, then press Enter.
    • Locate USB settings > USB selective suspend settings.
    • Select Disable.

Keep us in the loop with the result.

USB 3.0 hub not working with USB C to USB 3.0 adapter.

I got an Aukey USB 3.0 hub model CB-C35. It has four USB 3.0 Type A ports and plugs into USB C. It also has a VGA port but I don't care about that. It's plugged into a Renesas USB 3.0 controller PCI\VEN_1912&DEV_0014&SUBSYS_00151912&REV_03

It shows up in Windows 10 x64 device manager as a Generic SuperSpeed USB hub. Searching for its hardware ID turns up nothing.

Device USB\VID_2109&PID_0813\6&14de985a&0&1 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.

    Last Device Instance Id: USB\VID_1058&PID_1230\574343344E314C4639524C41
    Class Guid: {36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
    Location Path: PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0900)#PCI(0000)#USBROOT(0)#USB(1)
    Migration Rank: 0xF000FFFFFFFF0032
    Present: false
    Status: 0xC0000719

EDIT: Plugged into a USB 2.0 port it shows up as USB 2.0 BILLBOARD with this device ID USB\VID_2109&PID_0100&REV_0600

It then functions as a USB 2.0 hub.

EDIT2: I then plugged it back into a USB 3.0 port and now it still shows as USB 2.0 BILLBOARD, no error under USB devices. USB 3.0 devices plugged in with the hub plugged into USB 3.0 are not recognized at all. USB 3.0 devices plugged in with the hub connected to USB 2.0 are recognized but unreadable.

Good thing I didn't pay much when I didn't notice they had USB C plugs.

  4. Help with Upgrade to 10.0.19042 resulting in USB-C hub not recognizing any of the connected...

my comp wont recognize an external 2.0 usb hub and shows no usb 2.0 in device manager

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. What is the make and model of the computer?
    2. Have you tried connecting on different ports?
    3. Which version of Windows is installed on your device?

Refer the article Which Windows operating system am I running to provide
    the details.

However, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if that helps.

    Method 1

    Disable/Enable quick boot Windows 10

    1. Type Power Options in Start menu search and press
Enter key to open Power Options window.
    2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do to open System Settings window.
    3. Click on the link named Change settings that are currently available.
    4. Scroll down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
    5. Click on Save Changes, restart the device to check the status of the issue.

    Method 2

If the USB device does not display in Device Manager, there might be a power requirement issue. Disconnect the device and perform the following steps until the device is detected:

    1. Restart the computer
    2. Connect the device and wait 5 seconds. If the device is not recognized, disconnect it and go to the next step.
    3. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
    4. Double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the list.
    5. Double-click a USB Root Hub, click the
      Power
tab, and then click Power Properties (if it is shown).

Note: The Power tab displays only in USB 2.0. There is no Power tab in USB 3.0.

Devices that are attached to the hub are shown, as well as the power that they require. If the total displayed power is over 500 mA, remove the devices and use a powered hub.

    6. Continue looking at the power properties of each USB hub. If the total Power required exceeds the Total power available for the hub, then remove a device on that hub to lower the Power required number.
    7. Connect the device and wait 5 seconds. If the device is not recognized, disconnect it and go to the next step.
    8. Remove high-speed USB cables that are over 3m (9.8 ft) in length and use high-speed cables that are shorter than 3 m.
Only use high-speed cables shorter than 3m in length with high-speed USB devices (multifunction printers, scanners, and cameras).
    9. If the USB device is connected to a USB port on a keyboard, disconnect it, then connect it to a USB port on the computer or to a powered hub.
    10. There might be an issue with the USB port. Try connecting to a different USB port. If the USB device displays in Device Manager after connecting the cable to a different port, then uninstall and reinstall the USB device software
      driver.
    11. There might be an issue with the USB port. Try connecting to a different USB port. If the USB device displays in Device Manager after connecting the cable to a different port, then uninstall and reinstall the USB device software
      driver.
    12. Consult the manufacturer of the device for support if the device still fails to display.

    Hope it helps.
