Windows 10: Win10 Pro fullscreen Start Menu background greyed out, no accent colors on tiles

Hi all,


I did a Win10 Pro clean install actually a clean Win10 home install, immediate upgrade to Win 10 Pro on a Huawei MateBook 13. When I hit the switch in Start Settings to change to fullscreen start menu mode, everything looked normal, until I restarted and accessed the start menu.


Everything is now grey. The background is medium grey, about a third of the tiles are opaque dark grey, a third are opaque light grey, and the rest are translucent medium grey.


I have tried re-toggling start settings menu switches, color settings menu switches, restarting the machine, installed a windows update, changed themes, changed my background, etc, but nothing clears the problem.


I have read a few googled articles on this, saying it's a 1903 update issue, but offering no solutions.

Give Office 2016 Start Menu Tiles Colored Backgrounds


After upgrading to Office 2016, I have noticed that the start menu tiles lost their colorful backgrounds and were reverted back to the accent color. Here is how to fix that so the tiles have colored backgrounds.

This guide shows you go to go from this:

Step 1
Navigate to your Start Menu folder
Typically can be found at: "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"

Step 2
Find the shortcut for one of the Office suite apps and rename it to anything you want.

Step 3
Reopen the Start Menu, the page will refresh and the tile will now be colored (assuming you have pinned it on the front page)

Step 4 (Optional)
Rename the shortcut back to its original name, the tile will still remain colored.

How to remove accent color from Start menu tiles only

I'm Windows 10 user (newest updates as of 2015.12.23).
I would love to change my accent color to some bright color like yellow.

But this also changes background of tiles in Start menu. And that looks ugly and unreadable.

Is there any way to disable accent color for Start menu tiles?

Hi,

You can change the background color of the the Start menu on Settings. To do this, follow the steps below:

• Click the Windows logo (Start button).
• Click the gear icon (Settings).
• Choose Personalization.
• Select Colors.
• Under Show color on Start, taskbar, and action center, switch the slider to
  On.
• After switching the slider to On, you can now pick what color you want or you can click the
  Automatically pick an accent color from my background checkbox to make Windows pick the color that complements the color of your desktop background.
