  1. Windows only partially recognizes my external D: drive.

My D: Drive has many games from steam only that work fine. When I try to download from the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app using Game Pass Ultimate it does not seem to recognize my D: drive is there does not show it as an option on the choose storage location screen, I have tried Flight Simulator and Crackdown 3. I made sure the drive was unlocked I use bitlocker to secure it and even tried playing Portal through Steam, which worked fine. I tried looking for an answer, which brought me to trying to change my default download drive. I tried 2 ways, one through the Xbox app and one through Settings, neither of which even showed the D: drive as an option. I also tried viewing storage usage on it. Again, the D: drive was a noshow. I can also look through the files just fine, and it's a terabyte drive with 469GB free. I am using Windows 10 Pro.

    :)

  2. External drive not recognized

I have an external drive that is not being recognized. I have unplugged it and and plugged it back in and still not being recognized. I see it listed in device manager and it says it is working properly. In disk management it says Disk 1 Unknown not initialized.
I have tried changing drive letters not able to do that. This happened when I disconnected an hdmi cable, The external drive stopped responded at that point so I unplugged it but when In plugged it back it is not being recognized. I can feel the disk spinning
so it is working. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Toshiba external hard drive not recognized

    Hi Philip,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that the external hard drive is not recognized by the PC. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue.
It would be great if you can answer these questions to assist you in a better way.

    • Did you try connecting the Hardrive to different USB Port?
    • Does the Hardrive get detected if you try connecting it to a different PC?
    • Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?

I suggest you refer and follow the steps mentioned in the KB article and check if that resolves the issueError:
“USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive

Note: Ignore method 2 & 5 from the above article.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Zaki

  4. Windows only partially recognizes my external D: drive.

Installing to a second Drive. D: or external (Non Boot up Drives)

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as you are looking for an option to move the game location from the C drive to the Drive D, which is an external drive.

In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if that resolves your issue on both laptop and Desktop.

    1. As usual install the game on the PC’s in
      C Drive.
    2. Insert the external
      D drive
      to the PC.
    3. Press Windows + I key from the keyboard to launch
      Settings.
    4. Select Apps and click on
      Apps & features
      from the left pane.
    5. Search for the installed game from the list on the right pane.
    6. Single click on the game and select
      Move.
    7. Select the D drive under
      Choose a drive
where you want to move the game.
    8. Restart the PC with the external drive connected and then launch the game.

    We await your response.
