Windows 10 average CPU usage on standby

    Hello,

this has been going on for years now. Applications drain the life of my system whenever I want to do something meaningfull.

For example Subspooler is constantly utilizing 2.5% CPU, which is unbearable. It sometimes keeps moving from 2.5% to 12% and back down to 2.5% and repeats. Sometimes it stays up. But even the 2.5% is insanely unbearable. Why the hell does this thing need that amount of CPU? You could use that to send several rockets to the moon simultaneously.

And the sheer amount of small and tiny services and things each taking 1-30% CPU like a mosquito swarm draning a cow blood dry is severely impacting my system and power consumption.

To stay with the example: Why does the subspooler need 2.5% for printer queue management if it is not even in use? Why does windows not deactivate or turn off these things when they are not in use?

When I still had Windows Vista 64 bit many years ago it was easy - aftwhen Microsoft no longer had the possibility to meddle with my installation, I could relatively easy get the CPU usage down to 0.25% when the system was inactive. But with Windows 10 it is a gargantulan problem. And whenever a patch or major overhaul is being automatically installed most work gets reset anyway. The sheer impossibility to repair the issues at hand to begin with is the main problem thought. There is such a load of problems and usability problems.

But to solve at least one of those problems: How can I get the subspooler to use a reasonable 0.01% to 0.1% CPU while inactive and not in use? There are still several dozen such issues, but in combination they additively annihiliate my CPU availability.

It is a intollerable thing for a computer using up to above 50% CPU while actually not doing anything really important for the owner. Im not even mentioning global increase of power consumption, but just my own personal horror experience in utilizing this system. I already switched to Linux for a dual boot system on my Laptop and even though inexperienced, working is still much faster because the before mentioned problems don't follow me there.

The problem is that hard a short while after booting, but I cannot keep booting every few hours to preven the problem getting unbearable to work with.

What's wrong with the Subspooler? Why does it take 2.5% to run doing nothing? Why isn't it stopped when not in use? Why does it keep pingponging up to 15% CPU usage? What the hell is wrong with it? Are you guys developing in SCRUM mode or something worse? I've put up with this for many years and just watched you guys do your thing since 1998, but at some point the massive impact on my life, work and free time just CROSSES THE LINE.

I'm an IT-developer myself, do physics and engineering. I'm usualy the guy everyone else asks for help when they encounter a problem. But I myself don't have the capacity or time to keep cleaning the mess which is produced like on a manufacturing conveyor belt at your place.

And don't give me a **** solution like rebooting, temporarily turning the service off or anything else which would be just a temporary makeshift solution. I want the damned flood of things consuming a large fraction of CPU each and the services which keep spiking to 50% CPU or staying there to stop acting up. I don't care if this is considered a question or be made into a discussion. But the problem needs to stop at some point. It is wasting too much of my real time as it is already.

    kindly regards

    Skel

    :)

High CPU and memory usage on Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge.

Wow, this reply really nailed it. For both Edge and Firefox, I monitored the CPU usage and picked a process with high CPU usage. I killed 1 process per app and the CPU went down to under an average of 10%.

One connection was Fox News (Firefox), but can't see which one was stopped in Edge.

    Great suggestion!

  3. Windows Explorer high CPU Usage in Windows 10

    Hi Andrew,

Usually, too many background processes can boost your CPU usage. Since you already disabled the apps that are not necessary on startup,
we suggest checking the applications running once you have successfully boot Windows 10. To do this, simply follow the steps below:

    • Click on the Start button and type Task Manager on the search box.
    • On the Task Manager window, you should see the programs running.
    • Click on the More details drop-down button to see the total number of apps running and their real-time CPU usage.

From there, you should see what applications are running on high CPU usage. You can also
restart the Windows Management Instrumentation service and see if your CPU performance will improve. Follow the instructions below to restart the service:

    • Click on the Start button and type Services.
    • Scroll down the list and look for Windows Management Instrumentation.
    • Right click on it and select Restart.

Should you have further questions, please let us know.
