Windows 10: Java, or Not

I have Java 6 on my system. Years ago I updated to the latest version, and something went wrong (no remembrance of what that was). I went back to the version I just left (6), and that solved the problem. I've had it ever since. I'm not technical, know nothing about Java other than what little I read, and have no idea if I really need this on my machine. I'm thinking about updating to the latest version. If something went wrong I could easily restore a system image.

Internet explorer & java

Step 1: Clear caches and cookies of Internet Explorer.

Follow the steps below:

  Press Shift + ctrl + Delete key on your keyboard.

  Mark check on cache and cookies and click on Delete button.
  

Step 2: Run Printer troubleshooter.

  Type troubleshooting in the search area on the taskbar and select
  Troubleshooting.

  Select Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Select View all on the top left corner.
  
• 
  Click Printer.
  
•
