Windows 10: Windows 8.1 to 10 Upgrade Continually Failing Installation Media Tool

Hi, even after countless suggestions from how to websites on how to prepare, update, and disable certain things in order for an update from 8.1 to 10 to occur, I am now in my 3rd month attempting to even get a clean install of Windows 10. My latest maneuver was buying blank DVDs, prior to that cloning main drive to a 2TB SSD to ensure extra space. USB had already been tried for 2 and a half months, and I continually get the Windows 10 Installation has failed. I had 2 other older machines from the family that were Win 7, both of which had different results. One having to be clean installed

I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to windows 10 from 7. I used the Media Creation Tool from MS website. It took awhile, but I am finally running Windows 10 (12-14).

I opened the new App & Program feature to remove programs that I no longer needed. Scrolling down the list, I was horrified! Apps that I didn't install somehow magically installed themselves. Two programs stood out: Facebook and Candy Crush Soda Saga. Both programs have those tale-tale icons that they came from Windows Store (which I've never even opened). The install date for both of them were on 12-26.

Is this a common thing for Windows 10? Or is it because I did an upgrade and not a clean install?

I've just booted from known working install media to see exactly what it does when booting. The sequence of events is...

1. Windows logo on a black screen
2. circling dots appear beneath the logo
3. light blue 'Please wait' screen with circling dots
4. a command prompt window (very briefly)
5. the initial Setup page appears

Do you see steps 1-3? If so, it appears you have stopped at step 4, suggesting that something on the disc cannot be read.

Does the disc boot properly in another machine? If so, try cleaning the laptop's drive lens then try booting from the disc again.

If not, make new install media with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, either as a bootable USB, on an ISO that you can burn to another disc. At Step 8 in Option One of this tutorial you can choose between making a USB or an ISO.
