Windows 10: Why are my cds both cd-r and cd-rw rejected when I try to burn a cd?

When I try to burn a cd, I insert a cd but it is reject. Keeps saying, "Insert a writable cd." But my cds are writable.Mike

To further isolate this issue, you can try the suggestions below:

1. Try creating a CD with different media.

2. Make sure the CD-R/RW drive has been updated to the latest firmware from the hardware manufacturer.

3. Try playing the CD using other drive or player.

4. The CD-R/RW drive may be encountering buffering errors because of the speed of the burn. To resolve this issue, select a slower burn speed.

5. There may not be enough free storage space on your hard disk. Free up storage space and try again.

6. Another program may be using the CD-R/RW drive. Quit other programs that may be using the CD-R/RW drive.

Window 10 will not let me burn my pictures on CD-RW

CD-RW needs a more sensitive optical lens to read or write on it. There is a possibility that your CD burner can't write on a CD-RW. To isolate the issue, kindly answer the following questions:

• What app are you using to burn on the CD-RW?
• Have you tried using a CD-R or another CD-RW?
• Were you able to burn on a CD-RW using the same CD burner prior to this issue?
• Were there any changes made to your computer before this?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Burning to CD

What type of CD are you using? A CD-R is a one time burn media by default. Most burning programs finalize a CD-R disc after burning the session.
CD-RW discs can be burned multiple times, If you do not Finalize a CD-RW disc, you can add files to it again later but the disc will not be read on any other CD player until it is Finalized. Once Finalized, you cannot add files to it. CD-RW discs can be "Formatted" and then re-used.
If you plan on adding files to backup media over a stretch of time consider using a USB Flash Drive, which can add files to at any time and can be formatted (erased) and used again
