I had an older desktop running Win10 with several internal HDDs that stored data only. I purchased a new moterboard, cpu, memory, ssd and installed that in the old case, and set up win11 on this new installation as a fresh install. That is all working fine. The HDDs that stored data only in Win10 were connected to this new Win 11 install appear in the BIOS, and they show as healthy and online in disk management. They do not show in file explorer. If I right click on the drive in disk management, everything is greyed out except delete volume, which I don't want to do. I tried putting one of these

bought a desktop with blank hdd -help with activating win10

I bought a new desktop with blank hard drive. -originally had win8.1.

Since my old desktop model( running win10)is the same as the new desktop(with blank hdd), I was able to use the same image of my old desktop to restore the image on the new desktop.

So how do I go about activating win10?

    thank you

  3. Can I put a Windows10 HDD in a Windows 11 desktop?

Just to be sure we are "on the same page", my new desktop has both an HDD drive (which I would like to replace with my old HDD) and an SSD drive of, I believe, 256 MGB. Can I direct my WIN11 download to the SSD ? And what happens to the WIN10 operating system ? Thanks for the help.

Transfer Desktop/ Files from SSD to HDD

Well, you can point your desktop folder on the HDD to be your desktop on the SSD system, but the point is that your programs will not work as worked on the HDD, but if you only worry about files, they will work well.

To point the HDD desktop to be your system desktop, follow these steps: Open the File Explorer > Right click Desktop > Properties > Location tab > Move... > Select your HDD desktop folder, you will find it under D:\Users\(UserName)
