Windows 10: Child's Microsoft account suddenly linked to my local account - how to fix?

This is related to Windows 10 user account. In the past I have used only local account to log into my Windows 10 machine. However, recently I wanted to allow my child to play Minecraft on my computer. To do this I was forced to create a Microsoft account for my child, but also for myself in order to create a Family where I would be able to limit and control my child account. So, now I have two Microsoft accounts added to family. mine and my child's. After all this, I suddenly see on my computer that user who is logged into Windows is my local account, as expected as it is the only account I ha

Can a local user be changed to a child account?

Hello,

I'm trying to see if there's a way to change a local account (standard user) to a child account so it can be managed in the Microsoft Family?

I tried to follow the steps here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-c8f8cca1d52f

but there's no option for "family and other users".

They do not have Microsoft accounts. Do I need to basically create a new child account at Windows setup?

Any assistance appreciated.

Kindly follow the steps.

1. Login to your child's local account.

2. Press Windows key and go to Settings > Account > Your Account > Sign-in with a Microsoft Account.

3. Enter your child's Microsoft email and password and click Next.

4. Now enter your child's old local account password.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

This will not remove any data from your child's account, instead connect your child's Microsoft Account to their respective local account. Make sure you add your child to the family from accounts.live.com

Merge local child account with Microsoft account?

This happened to me also. What I had to do was go into my control panel (as admin) and delete the newly created microsoft account. Then when I followed Jesinta's steps from above it allowed me to enter my child's local password and finish linking the
accounts. Evidently it wouldn't let me connect a local account to a microsoft account if the same microsoft account had already been created on the computer. Hope this helps.
