Windows 10: Removing file extensions

I have 200 documents that I have individually renamed, without the file extension. Suddenly today, every docuemtn has a file extension on it .docx. The problem is it takes up room in what name displays so now half the name of the doc isn't displayed and some longer name are obscured. As far as I know, all I did was go into those folders and print off a couple of those documents. How do I get rid of the file extensions all together, in one step? Thewre's no way I want to keep renaming each individual document each time this happens. Thanks for any help.

Remove (not change) file extension association

I mistakenly associated a file extension with .pdf. I've found many instructions on how to change (swap) the file associate from one extension to the other, but how do you remove the association completely and return it to "Choose a default" ??

This user was very helpful (Redirecting).

I took the suggested steps above and it removed the association but didn't return it to "Choose a default" ... this has caused a thumbnail app to work for every file EXCEPT the ones i mistakenly associated, then did the work around on. This is affecting
productivity as I'm working with over 1,000 files (and growing). Since 145 people said they had the same question, please Microsoft, can you answer or solve this problem? Please help. Thanks.

To change the file extension when saving a document in Word 2013, you may follow the steps below:

• Click on File; then, select Options from the list.
• In the Word Options window, choose Save.
• Under Save files in this format, select *.doc from the list.
• Hit OK button to confirm and save the changes.

If ever your Word 2013 application is not recognizing the changes you have made, you may restart the application; however, if the issue still persists, we suggest that you repair it. To do this, see this

AFAIK it's still not possible to decrypt your files for free...
