  1. No Preferred Wireless Networks

I cannot connect to the internet from my PC. When I run the network troubleshooter I receive the error 'no preferred networks.' I receive the association status: fail 0x00038002 association reason code: 0x00000002. I have run "netsh winsock reset" and reset with no luck. I have also followed all the steps under this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/fix-network-connection-issues. Nothing is working to help fix this.

    :)

    No preferred wireless network

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern and frustration you have been through. I will be glad to assist you.

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have performed to resolve your issue.

    1. Have you tried connecting WLAN?

I suggest you to follow the Methods and check if the issue persists.

Method 1: Remove and re-create the wireless network connection.

To remove and re-create the wireless network connection, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type ncpa.cpl, and then hit Enter.

    2. Right-click your wireless network connection, and then click Properties.

    3. Click the Wireless Networks tab.

    4. Under Preferred networks, click your wireless network, and then click Remove.

    5. Click View Wireless Networks.

    6. Under Network Tasks, click Refresh Network List.

    7. Under Choose a wireless network, click the wireless network to which you want to connect, and then click Connect.

Method 2: Further, you may reset the Winsock settings and check if this helps:

    Run CMD as administrator.

In the command line type: “netsh winsock reset”.

Press Enter then restart your PC to check if this helps.

  3. Wireless Network

Thanks for trying the steps again. It's now clear that the problem is on your router. To reconnect your laptop to the network, we suggest that you set or specify the channel of your wireless network. If you can access your router's user interface, set the
channel to either channel 1, 6, or 11. Once done, remove your WiFi network from your preferred network list, then reconnect.

    Let us know the result.

    Regards.

    No Preferred Wireless Networks

    No preferred wireless network

I still cannot access my wireless network. When I run the network connectivity troubleshooter, I am asked to pick a preferred network. I click on the line to give me a list and I get none. I am then told I have not chosen a preferred network. It's a
little hard to do so when I am not given any to choose from! I have done all command prompt solutions. None have worked. Entering the command netcfg -d caused all wireless networks to disappear. The wireless adapter was still installed and appeared to
be working fine. I tried to enter the network manually and it didn't work. I actually had to re-install Windows 10 to be able to pick up the wireless networks again.

I can see my home network, Google Chromecast sometimes, our smart TV most of the time and a hidden network. We have no hidden network and live far enough from our neighbors that the only ones that show should be in our house alone. Could this be the problem?
The network symbol for each network shows the symbol with an asterisk. What does this mean?
