Trouble Opening PDF's

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

• Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
• Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?

Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

• Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
• Click on Preferences and select Internet.
• Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.

Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
Turn off Internet Explorer,
enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.

How to change the default PDF file reader in Windows 10

Method 1. Use the file browser

Step 1. Right click on your PDF file

Right click on a PDF file. Click on "Open with"> "Select another application".

Step 2. Change the default reader

A pop-up window will appear so you can choose your favorite software. Check the "Always use this application" box and click "OK".

If your preferred software does not appear in the pop-up window, click "More applications" to expand the list. Scroll down until you can see the "Find another application on this PC" link and click on that option. Find and select your preferred software to
set it as the default PDF reader in Windows 10.

Method 2. Use the control panel

Step 1. Open the control panel

Open the control panel of your computer and click on "Default Programs". Proceed by accessing the option "Associate a file type or protocol with a program". It will take some time for your computer to load all of its file formats.

Step 2. Change the default program

Enter the extension .pdf. Highlight your line and click on the "Change program ..." button. A pop-up window will appear allowing you to choose your preferred default PDF reader.

Step 3. Confirm your settings

If you can not see your favorite PDF viewer, you can find it by selecting the "More applications" link. If you still can not find it, scroll down and click on the "Find another application on this PC" link. Once you have located the software you want, click
"Open" to set it as the default PDF file viewer on your PC.

Open PDF files in Adobe Acrobat Reader instead of browser

Thank you for your quick response.

I followed all your steps, but it didn't change anything:

1. I followed the steps for the settings in Acrobat Reader. Basically I think it is the same as setting the default app in the Windows Settings, but I tried it all the same. However it didn't resolve the issue.
   
2. To change the default app using the properties of a file is usually the first thing I do. In the properties it shows that it should open PDF file with Acrobat reader.
   
3. In Edge The PDF option a second pane with 2 options: "Always download PDF files" and "PDF view settings". Both options are on.
   
4. In Chrome I would assume the setting you mention should be toggled on. In my Chrome browser I have two options which are mutually exclusive: "Download PDF' s" and "Open PDF's in Chrome". The setting "Download PDF' s" is active.
   
5. In Firefox I changed the setting, but it did not resolve the issue.
   

Do you have any other suggestions?
