Windows 10: notepad does not work properly

notepad If I try to use Find ctrl/F and click Find next text moves down but no text is highlighted and no cursor on the screen. If the text being searched is not far from the current cursor position, the process works fine for a while, but as soon as the next text is a considerable distance away, the problem repeats itself. But if the window of notepad is maximized, Find ctrl/F works perfectly independently of size of file and position of cursot at the start.

I understand that your notepad is not functioning properly after you have accidentally opened a notepad file. Please restart your device and see if the notepad is working again.

If you still have the same, I suggest repairing your Notepad app. Follow the steps below.

Press Win logo key + Q to open the search box and type Notepad> right-click Notepad at the top of the result list > App settings > Repair. Then restart your device.

If the issue still persists, please follow the steps again, and this time choose reset. After resetting, please restart your device again.

Notepad on Windows 7\

Suggestion would be uninstall then new install on Win7. Maybe an older version would work better? A list, maybe Version 7?

Windows 10 Character Map and Notepad

Well I found the answer to my question. I should have thought through this a little longer.

Notepad is native in ANSI mode.
However Wordpad can work in UTF-8 mode.
I found steps to make Notepad usable in UTF-8 mode but there are a lot of steps and once again there has to be a registry hack to make it work.
Now how do I make Workpad be listed in the most used application through the Start Menu?
