Computer is infected with Cobalt Strike, a "tool"/virus developed by a company called Fortra, in conjunction with Microsoft, that allows attackers to obtain complete remote control of a computer without the user's knowledge. It's supposedly used by organizations to penetration test the security of their IT infrastructure although now it's being used nefariously by unknown attackers on personal and business computers throughout the United States. No other virus scanner identifies it - but Windows Defender Antivirus does. BUT Windows Defender Antivirus never notifies the user. When other viruses

Turning off Windows Defender Antivirus notification Doesn't Turn Off Windows Defender Antivirus notifications

    Hi

I went into Settings and turned off the slide called "Windows Defender Antivirus notification" but I'm still getting notifications.

I rebooted it just to check and I'm still getting them.

Does that slide not work? Is there a bug or maybe I'm in the wrong spot to turn off the annoying notifications. Unfortunately, something happened and I now get an alert about every five minutes.

    Thanks

  3. Turning off Windows Defender Antivirus notification Doesn't Turn Off Windows Defender Antivirus notifications

Turning off Windows Defender Antivirus notifications will only turn off the “enhanced notifications” that tell you when your device was scanned and that “no threats were found” If you’re still receiving notifications then they’re probably detection
notifications that are telling you that some malware was found.

When threat detections start repeating, it often means that Windows Defender just wasn’t up to the task of removing the malware that it detected. Sometimes you can complete the removal process with something as simple as running a scan with Windows
Defender Offline. You can query for any additional actions that might be needed by running the PowerShell
Get-MpThreatDetection command, and then examining the value of the Additional Actions Bitmask:

    Redirecting

In many cases though, you’ll need to run a scan with a third-party malware-removal app in order to complete the malware-removal process. For example, many of the repeated detections that we’ve been seeing lately are for Trojan:HTML/Brocoiner!rfn. This
Beeping Computer thread suggests that just scanning with Malwarebytes in Safe Mode might be sufficient to remove this threat:

Infected with TROJAN: HTML/BROCOINER!RFN - Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Help

Note the references to Rootkit.Fileless.MTGen in the detections; and also see this thread:

Rootkit.Fileless.MTGen/Trojan:HTML/Brocoiner!rfn - Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Help

If scanning with Malwarebytes doesn’t stop the notifications; then follow the steps in this removal guide, which can be applied to other threats as well as to Trojan:HTML/Brocoiner!rfn:

    https://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-trojan-html-brocoiner/

Of course there are some cases where repeated detections appear to be caused by remnants of previously installed or preinstalled AV apps; so you might need to use the removal utilities for any previously installed or preinstalled AV apps:

    Redirecting

In other cases repeating detections might be caused by file system corruption, and you might need to scan with the System File Checker and DISM:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...em-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

Some cases also appear to be caused by defective definition updates; in which case you would simply have to wait for the issue to be resolved in a future update.
